First movement of Mendelssohn's piano concerto in E minor No.3

One of my favorite works of Mendelssohn. This concerto is a towering example of Mendelssohn's stunning piano technique. Written about the same time when he composed Elijah and his Violin concerto In E minor Op.64, it reflects, Mendelssohn's more mature style.

This is the majority of the first movement. The first movement is little over 12 minutes, but because of the 10 minute limit on Youtube, I was able to upload nearly 10 minutes of the movement.

I will try to upload the second movement as well.

This concerto doesn't have a third movement, it was lost.

Enjoy!

This is... really awesome!
I'm having a hard time finding information about this, though. Are there any CD recordings? Every time I do searching, I find stuff on his other piano concerti, but not this one. I've found sketchy and/or contradictory info about it on what little I've located, and would appreciate clarification. For example, I've seen it stated that Mendelssohn totally completed it, sketched it and the version there is finished by someone else, that he never even completed a 3rd movement, that he did complete it and it was lost, that he vaguely sketched a third movement, and so on and on. I don't know what's true and what isn't.

Hi , Im glad that you grasped the greatness of this stuning work!

Here is the entire book by Larry Todd - A life in Music - Felix Mendelssohn

Read pages 479 -480 .

By the way, Professor Larry Todd was the one that arranged this music from the original 13 pages that were found of Mendelssohn's concerto.

I have a CD of the work

I remind you that in two days time we celebrate Mendelssohns birthday. 2nd February is his 200. birthday. I wonder wether there are certain things planned here in Hamburg, Germany. At least he was born in our town. Maybe some kind of special event?

But I must admit that I don't know much of Mendelssohn. The 3rd and 4th symphony, the violin concerto, summernights dream. Some pieces I didn't like yet, like the 5th symphony. There is a nice box on the market. May I should take the oppurtunity to know more of Mendelssohn this year?
