Not too sure where to put this but just wanted to draw attention to a terrific new Hyperion CD. I do not listen to much organ/choral music but I have played this CD repeatedly. Briggs is English, lives in the USA and is clearly influenced by French composers (Dupre, Durufle etc) and yet this is highly original music. The Gramophone critic mentioned having tears in his eyes (for good reasons!) whilst listening to this and I can understand why - it is deeply moving. Highlights for me are the Mass for Notre Dame (2002) and the Te Deum Laudamus (2006). This would appeal to admirers of the Faure or Durufle Requiem. Having enjoyed some of his own music I expect that our own Karl would find this of interest. The recording is spectacular.
A great disc.
