I concur, wonderful news!

Absolutely scrumptious. ;D  Hyperion is a major label, and cannot be ignored!
I've always had great respect for Paddington because he is amusingly English and a eccentric bear He is a great British institution and emits great wisdom with every growl. Of course I have Paddington at home, he is a member of the family, sure he is from the moment he was born. We have adopted him.

...and on Apple Music. 200 albums is a drop in the bucket, I wonder if the entire catalog will eventually be made available.

Streaming availability is nice. My main concern is whether the Universal takeover will upend their recording projects.

Madiel

The list of available albums is organised in a very unhelpful way, possibly based around release date. Certain high profile artists seem to recur a fair bit, but there are series of recordings that are only partially there.

I eventually found a couple of the Robert Simpson string quartets, which I'm keen to try, but it only explicitly indicated Spotify and Apple Music. I didn't find them on Idagio.

Still, it's a start.
Every single post on the forum is unnecessary. Including the ones that are interesting or useful.

QuoteSome two hundred albums—presenting a broad overview of the catalogue and including many of our finest treasures—are available now, and more will be added over the coming months.

They'll probably eventually have them all, albeit rolling them out slowly like Praga has.

BWV 1080

Nothing on IDAGIO as of yet

I saw Hyperion's Facebook post this morning - it sounds like their entire catalogue will be made available eventually (how long that will take I don't know). And yes, I also wonder if their projects like the Romantic Piano Concerto series will continue in light of this recent development. Regardless, I'm quite thrilled to have at least some of Hyperion's valuable catalogue now available at my fingertips!!

It will be a while before the streaming affects me, I suspect, because it seems like the stuff they are releasing are the high profile releases which if I want them I've already got them. The Hyperion recordings lingering in my shopping cart, the Lawrence Power recordings of Hindemith, are not included. But the Stephen Hough recording of the Brahms late piano piece is there, which is nice.

It is not so much the explicit series I worry about, but routine ongoing recording projects with my preferred artists. Will be hard to judge because we don't have a control, a parallel universe in which Hyperion stays independent (and perhaps goes bankrupt).

Nothing on Idagio.  I might switch back to Qobuz then.

Looks like Hewitt, Takacs Q, London Haydn Q in particular are well represented.

A promising start.

On the streaming website, it appears to be most recent release date (i.e. re-issues appear later than they ordinarily would).

They said it was a representative sample of the catalogue; I don't know that that's fully true, but I was happy to see some of the older 80s/90s stuff that has been long gone from CD.

It seems to be highly curated with an emphasis on either popular or critically well received recordings.  I think it is a great start.  Especially because on my morning walk I was changing my expectations for Hyperion to start streaming from a few months to a year or two to literally learned that they started!

It is strange to have it on my mind and then learn the news.

The bastards have put on streaming all the recordings that I've spent my hard earned money to buy. And all the ones I want to hear - Hamelin's Fauré for example - they've left off.

I hate them.

You can sort by "Name" (ascending or descending), but "Name" appears to be the disc's serial number - so CDA66021 comes first, CDS44371 last.  No, not exactly helpful.  But there are few enough at the moment to be browsable.  And the search function works.

In times of war it is not possible to have a collection of CDs on hand at all times. If it wasn't for streaming, I wouldn't be able to listen to music in the variety I would prefer.

New positions have been added since yesterday. For instance, Stephen Hough's albums.

Christopher Herricks Bach recordings would be a good thing too!

It is Qobuz, just in case.
