My favorite films are The Birthday Party, Sorcerer and To Live and Die In L.A.

Certainly a fine legacy of work. But I have to mention, no disrespect intended, that Cruising (which I never saw, thank goodness) got some of the worst reviews I ever read.

Looked up the bio on Wikipedia, and Mr. Friedkin's first two (of four) wives were Jeanne Moreau and Lesley-Anne Down. Formidable!

Agreed on To Live and Die in L. A., but my (admittedly unoriginal) favorite is The French Connection, as I'm fond of gritty NYC films. Thought I might have seen Jade, but no: got it mixed up with The Last Seduction, another Linda Fiorentino (who was big for a while in the '90s) villainess film.

Another vote for those two, especially Sorcerer, which has that hair-raising scene where a truck drives over a very unstable rope bridge!
