By the way, here are the albums I own already:

Duke Ellington and John Coltrane
Giant Steps
John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman
Ken Burns Jazz
My Favorite Things
Soultrane
Stardust

There are a lot of pressing of Blue Trane, and most of them are rather flawed, but the newly-released Steve Hoffman-mastered hybrid SACD is the one to get. There are two SACDs of this title already, so be careful.

Here are my top 5 Dave:

1. At Birdland 1962 (Charly label)

2. The Complete 1961 Village Vanguard Recordings

3. Live at the Half Note: One Down, One Up (1965)

4. John Coltrane & Don Cherry: The Avant-Garde (1960)

And a pressing of one of these, in some manner or form:

Mine seems to be a different pressing than the ones here and has less tracks....I will be upgrading sooner than later.

Some serious coin for the analogue, but I bet it sounds awesome.

Thanks for the input, guys.

Sun Ship is my favorite of the classic quartet recordings.  As for the later stuff, I am partial to the Olatunji Concert and the 1966 Village Vanguard show.  I hope some day they find and release a recording of the concert he played with Pharoah Sanders and the Ayler brothers.

Giant Step is a landmark, but the solo for Mr. PC is to die for. I nearly fell off my chair the first time i heard it.

When I first listened to that album, it blew me away. I tried desperately to find something similar, but could not. That's usually the case with the best albums; they cannot be replicated.

Yeah that song (especially the Birdland 1962 recording of it with Eric Dolphy) was what compelled me to start exploring Coltrane's music

Excellent reboot, Karl, and good morning.  I imagine "The Pulse" is beating mightily today.
