What is "quality music"?

I think that it is for related reasons that people tend to poo-poo Beethoven's Fourth and Eighth (say), where they have no difficulty acknowledging the greatness of the Fifth or Seventh.

It's really weird, especially when both the 4th and 8th start off with BARNSTORMER first movements. Easy to like. Or maybe that's the reason.

Well, since Josquin ignored my question, I'll just clarify that The Simpsons is indeed genius. People want to discredit comedy because it's easy to say it's not "deep" or "on the same level" as something of drama, but it really just conveys a different aspect of genius.

Just as a composition that is heavy on dissonance and angst will automatically get taken more seriously than a consonant, cheerful work. The old show-biz saying is true: "Dying is easy, comedy is hard."
