Hello everyone,

I'm currently studying Mahler and I've listened to his 1st symphony as a start (many people on GMG told me to start with his 1st). However, I'm a high-school student who doesn't have too much dough to spend and my local library has only recordings of amateur orchestras playing Mahler  >:( .

So I would like to ask if anyone has great recordings of Mahler's symphonies and is willing to share their collection with me (links to steaming servers, rapidshare downloads, etc) that would be great. I don't want to bother/give trouble to any of you and I deeply apologize if these kinds of threads are against the rules here. Thanks very much! :)

Recordings that I'm interested in:

Any Mahler symphony, with any renowned orchestra/conductor

Many thanks to both of you, especially MahlerTitan for the PM.  :)

Your library probably participates in inter-library loans which will greatly increase your selection. Ask the librarian.

yep, that's how i started out, but nowadays you have so much digital material made available online, you don't really need to run to the library.

I don't use the library. I have two small children and I am afraid the stuff from the library has lots of germs (and look it too).

I did the same too...I spent a lot of afternoons listening to all the Mahler and Wagner LPs in the library. Now it's like:hmmm, if either one of my kids get sick from these library CDs how much is it going to cost me to take them to the pediatrician and get drugs from the pharmacy !

Maybe you should just stay home and never leave the house? >:D
CD's are washable.

That's ridiculous.  Money is dirtier than any cd from the library.

I don't use paper money. I use my credit card and ATM card, and buy mostly online.

Kullervo

I love my library! I don't care if their CDs are covered in bacteria, (I work in a video store, that wouldn't bother me anyway) I would be nowhere without them.

Don

You can't avoid germs - might as well forget about them.
