I bought this "coffee table" book of cat/kitten photos for my wife.  Each page is devoted to a single cat in a charming pose and given a name reflecting its perceived personality.  All cats resided in a Humane Society shelter in Kentucky.  All fun dissipates, however, in the end pages which describe the fates of the animals.  Most were happily adopted; but some (with cute names no less!) were euthanized because of physical abnormality or disease like feline leukemia.  Not much of a feel-good book after all and my wife is upset with me.
Oh dear! However, your intention was good.

At a quick glance, it looks to be a nice shelter.  On their "About Us" page, they state:

"Woodford Humane Society takes in all animals in need, regardless of their health, age, or breed. We never put a time limit on how long a pet can stay with us.

With no government funding, we rely solely on donations and private contributions to care for approximately 1,000 animals each year. We are proud to maintain a placement rate of 95% or higher – almost triple the national average."

No shelter, alas, is in strictest of terms a no-kill shelter (even the best of them).  For various reasons they do at times have to euthanize animals.   :(  Perhaps consider donating it to a local library?  Or ask your vet where they think it could be best made use of?  I think that it could be a valuable tool to help convince those who don't want to spay or neuter their pets to seriously rethink it and also to encourage others to adopt from shelters or maybe even think about volunteering there or donating?  And the importance too of microchipping your pet(s) and keeping your contact information up to date!

Yes, books about animals can oftentimes be troubling to read, but I'd encourage you and your spouse to try to take heart from the inspirational and successful stories and find comfort in knowing that all of the animals that passed through their hands were loved and cared for--including those that had to be euthanized.

Best wishes,

PD

I love how they learned to trust her, the human.   :)  That, and amazed by the change in Mac, but to know the why/how of that, you need to watch this short video.  :)

Just ran across this story of an amazing cat, amazing owner and an amazing mission to help children with eye diseases overcome their fears:

It's a cat meme that originated on Reddit a year ago. It spawned multiple variations that replace the cat sound with various other ones. You can see them on YT.

Do you need a cat to get one of those towers?
;D  I have a 3-tier tower which is really sturdy.  Just need to acquire another kitty to be able to use it again.  He or she may not want to share it with me however (as evidenced herein):

C'mon, it's not the Nostromo. Pretty soon they'll be beyond anything.
