In case you missed the Brendel Big Box for his 85th, it is being reissued for his 90th.

114.

Thanks.

That's slightly more than Liszt's complete piano works.  :D

Wonder what the story is with the little umbrella logo in the corner. Did they look at the cover and think, "needs more umbrellas"?

I thought Google might have an answer there.  It didn't
But it did have this essay sparked by the box's original issue.

The above new CD contains the following works:

O'Toole, Anthony: Prelude to Something Big Show

Pilsner, Chris: Dum Spiro Spero

Bryant, Steven: Miniature Suite

Ford, Mark: Przebudzenie (The Awakening)

Richards, Eric: Concerto for Trombone Quartet and Wind Ensemble

Blackshaw, Jodie: Peace Dancer

Yurko, Bruce: Metamorphosis

I have been listening to this CD on the Naxos Music Library Website.

Although there is some nice music here, with the exception of the Concerto for Trombone Quartet and Wind Ensemble, it seems to my ears that the rest of the works were written by the same composer.

Coming in late February:

So this is the second volume to Dausgaard’s ongoing Bartók, which I had no idea there was a volume one. :-\ Anyway, strange cover art --- I don’t really think Russian Suprematist art suits Bartók considering he wasn’t Russian nor had any involvement with their music. He was Hungarian for crying out loud! What’s wrong with you cover designers at Onyx?!?!?

 ??? ??? ???

I see the Schuman/Piston in there.  Hoping for really good transfers of the mono Sibelius 4 Legends and the mono Prokofiev Symphony No. 6.

+1

That Sibelius 4 puts every other in the shade IMO (including Ormandy’s later stereo version).

It will include his Honegger Jeanne au bûcher, too !!

One of the glories of the catalogue is the 10cd set of Fiorentino studio recordings from Berlin, 1994-97. The one you show would seem to have been from 1993. I see that the Scriabin, Schumann and Bach are in both sets, but obviously different performances. Very interesting !

Definitely will keep my eyes on this one. I’m not sure whether I’ll buy it or not, but I’ll certainly sample it. Bluebeard’s Castle is my favorite piece of music of all-time.
