Hyperion's May releases

Interesting to see Kremer on Hyperion. This might be his first appearance on this label. Since UMG acquired Hyperion, it looks like their roster is expanding.

I fear this may be just instrumental music.
Quote from: prémont on March 01, 2025, 10:23:29 AMProbably not, because they feature a soprano and a tenor.

Quote from: Que on March 01, 2025, 02:15:54 PMDoes it seem to say they reworked the instrumental arrangements in the Codex Faenza back to versions with voices?
Hence the title "An Imaginary Codex"?

The Codex Faenza is one of the most significant Ars Nova manuscripts, captivating musicians and musicologists alike. The remarkable collection features instrumental arrangements on Italian and French vocal works by renowned 14th-century composers like Francesco Landini, Guillaume de Machaut, Jacopo da Bologna, and Bartolino da Padova. Through a unique fusion of original vocal models, the version arranged from the codex and newly composed diminutions by the performer, L'Amorosa Caccia creates an immersive auditory journey, inviting listeners into a world where composition and reinterpretation unfold in a truly three-dimensional listening experience. L'Amorosa Caccia performs on copies of medieval instruments and on the organ of the Basilique de Valère (1435), the oldest playable organ still extant.

Lots of singing in this one - worth checking for sure. Amazing imaginative flute playing to accompany the soprano in the 7 minute long  "Hont paur"  , Track 3

Quote from: prémont on February 16, 2025, 03:21:33 AMAs to composers and works it looks like a very mixed bag with many "lesser" pieces. I wonder what the purpose with that kind of collection is. Never-the-less I probably need to ask her to burn four CDRs for me.

I think the one with the Cabezon, Gabrieli, Merulo etc is really very good indeed. She's really in her element. She brings the music to life.

Could be really interesting this, I have heard three things by Pullois before and they are sweet.

You buy one, at most two, Steve Reich CDs. And you more or less hear everything that's on any number of discs released under his name. I see a direct saving of at least a hundred bucks — unless, of course, you need to spend them anyway.

Frübeck de Burgos recorded the Ohana work twice with the same soloist and orchestra?
The Nights in the Garden of Spain recording is one of the best out there.

Too funny. It's literally only a few hours since I was noting that de Burgos and de Larrocha did several Decca albums together.

And the Nights in the Garden recording is a rare de/de/de naming trifecta.

Well, if you see the listening thread, I did listen to de Larrocha and de Los Angeles also doing (de) Falla.

MORE MAY RELEASES

"The harpist Emmanuel Ceysson is unanimously recognised for his powerful virtuoso playing. He was appointed principal harp with the Opéra national de Paris at the age of 22, where he remained for fifteen years before going to the orchestra of the Metropolitan Opera of New York for five years; he has been principal harpist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra under Gustavo Dudamel since 2020. Here he pays tribute to Marcel Tournier (1879-1951), one of the greatest harpist composers in the history of the instrument. The majority of Tournier's works are for solo harp or voice and harp, but he later added other instruments to certain pieces and so transformed them into chamber works."

The press materials do not name the chamber music partners or orchestral accompanists.

As has become habitual for Wilson, the booklet declares that the Symphonic Dances are in a new performing edition edited by Wilson...but gives absolutely zero information on how it is any different. They are bad about this.

Include the current label name, and it's a quadfecta.

I presume a stroll through the Brilliant catalogue will provide the info on her collaborators.
