Wow. This is overlooked Elgar. I wonder how this compares to Hickox and Groves. Cover art is kind of crappy...  :-X
Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

IIRC, our esteemed fellow GMGer Jessop (shirime) sang as a chorus member in the concerts this recording originated from. I, for one, will be buying this (as it's a work I'm very fond of).  :)

Nice !

Yes!  :)

The contents can already be seen on amazon.fr (well, kinda, as in their usual bizarre style, they mention induvidual movements, not works as such). AFAIK, the set includes a real rarity: Loriod's recordings of Mozart's first four piano concertos, conducted by Boulez (which were only fleetingly available in CD as a complement to the French magazine CLASSICA some years ago).

Somewhat more informative tracklisting for the Yvonne Loriod box:

I'm listening to the Chopin etudes now and I must say, I think it's not bad at all.

Elgar would have loved it. Is he wearing anything to hide is willie?

Initial impressions suggest it's worth a listen.

And having now listened to it I'll make a negative comment -- I just don't see what the fuss is about with Marc Mauillon here, and possibly everywhere else. Yes the timbre of his voice is agreeable but is there anything more than that? If so I just don't see it.

Why do you think Elgar would have loved it?
They use the texts/names to hide the willie. On the right side the text would be easier to read against the darker background. The cover looks like someone used 5 minutes to make it, 2 minutes of which went to figure out how to hide the willie. So, I don't think at all Elgar would have loved it.

I don't know what sort of boys Elgar liked, I'm guessing he would have found that sort of body attractive if he was indeed gay. Neither do I know the current state of elgarian research on the subject. There's a paper about Elgar's sexuality by Byron Adams, 'The "Dark Saying" of the Enigma: Homoeroticism and the Elgarian Paradox', 19th Century Music, 23 (2000), 218–35

Not a cover art joke, the artist here really has no arms. Here is video, where I can't resist noting that he wears a watch on his leg.

The dude can play.  I stumbled upon the artist by way of Herbert Schuch.  At first I thought the cover was a bad photoshop job.

Welp, definitely buying that Roussel edition. Also is that a colorized photo of Roussel? He died in 1937.

Don't know, could be, but then Kodachrome was invented in the 30s.

Wow! Just wow! This guy is fantastic, I humbly bow to his unbelievably strong morale and determination in such dire circumstances. Thanks for posting the video.

Hmm. Will want to know more about this and whether the performances are considered good ones. A couple of attractive names.
I am now working on a discography of the works of Vagn Holmboe. Please visit and also contribute!

A reliable alternative would be the BIS Grieg box, in excellent sound and with Grieg's own orchestra, the Bergen PO. Not one dud in it.

Alessandro Carmignani is their countertenor on two of the masses, he's a baroque opera specialist. I don't know if they transposed up the Requiem.

As far as I know Jarvi recorded Grieg for DG. Its hard to see how it ends up on a Warner release, some sort of cross-label licensing agreement?

That could be interesting, although I expect I already have a lot of it. What's with the picture, though?
