Some MARCH stuff...

"This release contains world premiere recordings of three works that reimagine the music of Beethoven in differing and special ways: a brand-new 'symphony' in the style of Beethoven based on the Seventh Violin Sonata, an orchestral suite that captures the spirit of Fidelio, and Gabriel Prokofiev's unique take on Beethoven's Ninth Symphony featuring styles from minimalism to impressionism via Hip-Hop, African, Funk, Baroque and many others to create an eclectic but striking remix of some of the most famous movements in all music."

I feel obliged to disclose that I'm personally friends with the co-arranger of the Violin Sonata, Garrett Schumann. We went to college together. Just texted him to ask what's up with this.

"The debut of the Taracea ensemble creates a bridge between past and present. The Madrid-based trio's artistic project is to combine early music, jazz and improvisation. Its founder Rainer Seiferth, a German musician who lives in Spain, plays the vihuela, the Spanish counterpart of the Renaissance lute. Belén Nieto is a flute and recorder specialist and a regular member of Jordi Savall's ensembles. The double bass player Miguel Rodrigañez is at home in jazz, flamenco and classical music. If there is a movement for 'new' early music, Michel Godard was one of its founders: the French virtuoso of the serpent blends in perfectly with the group. Percussionist David Mayoral combines East and West on zarb, riq and darbuka."

Luigi Nono - Djamila Boupacha
Haydn - Symphony No 49 "La passione"
Gerard Grisey - Quatre Chants pour Franchir le Seuil

Hannigan conducts, also.

The Gorecki SQ album will be on my list !  :)

I have them as downloads, terrific music. And the Molinaris are a great ensemble.

Michelangeli's Debussy remastered in 2 CDs and a Blu-Ray audio.

I was just looking at this, but the older issue. May have to hold out for this one. It's a new remaster?

I don't know about this one specifically, but in previous editions in the same series the blue ray disc was a new master but the accompanying CDs were the same ones sold in previous editions.

Aw, too bad. I don't even have a Blueray player.

Quote from: Brian on January 29, 2020, 09:33:05 AMA few months ago Quatuor Ébène released a single CD of Beethoven quartets with the teaser that it was the beginning of a cycle. Hope y'all didn't buy it, because the next release isn't Vol. 2, but rather a box of the whole cycle packaged up:

I did plump for the single release.  I was fully prepared to pay full price for individual discs.  A box set will save me some dough.  If the rest of the cycle is as good as the first disc, then the Ebene will set the digital recording era standard.

New recordings.  I don't know if it is an anniversary year one-off or the start of a second cycle.  I'm hoping the latter.

When Holliger's cycle is complete, I do think I'll buy.  I'm hoping he can work the same magic he did with Schumann's symphonies.

Also coming, with no image yet, a new complete Années de Pélerinage by Suzana Bartal.

They are doing op 18/3, 59/1, 95, 131 and 135 in Rosendal this year (Me and my wife have a festival passes).

Whole program here: https://www.baroniet.no/rosendal-festival/program/

Andsnes, Biss, Lewis and Olafsson will do the piano honours.

What an absolutely horrible cover.

Indeed. I can't even read the texts.

I don't know which I'd feel more compelled to attend, the quartets or the piano recitals.  Attending all of them seems the safest course.

Which I aim to do. Last year I managed 11 out of 12 Shostakovich concerts, the one I missed was a substitute concert for Levitt who was ill and couldn't perform the complete op 87 Preludes and Fugues. Still hoping for a recording......

This is rather good, or rather at least the 894 is, I haven't heard the other one,  I shall have to hear his other recordings now.

Look interesting.  :)

Though the Huelgas Ensemble recording changed my perspective of the Eton Choirbooks and the ways to perform the music in them, dramatically.
