Unless there was some special arrangement Columbia was owned by CBS in 1951 and their recordings would now be in the Sony catalog. (This is consistent with the fact that the Columbia recordings of Arrau and Stravinsky made in the early 50's are now published by Sony).

American and UK Columbia split in the 1930s. What you said is correct for American Columbia. But UK Columbia became part of EMI, and now Warner.

I don't know which Columbia recorded those 1951 Preludes. It's not always easy to tell because sometimes they licensed to each other.

Yes, but what kind of an adventure will one experience?

The kind the third most famous Jarvi conducting a C-list orchestra can deliver.

The "Adventure" is an hourlong symphonic suite arranged by Henk de Vlieger. It's been recorded twice already.

...and is like reading Remembrance of Things Past in a comic book version (which actually exists btw)  ::)

I did not know that; I thought it was a set of bleeding chunks.  I did a quick check at Amazon US and found two things: 1.) the Kristjan Jarvi disc was originally released in September 2016 in the US (I found this on a European site), and 2.) it appears to have been recorded three other times - de Waart (though it doesn't mention de Vlieger), Renes, and Neeme Jarvi.  A shootout between father and son is possible, something I've only done with the Kleibers so far.  I don't feel a powerful desire to do so here, though.

Oops - three is correct. I believe de Waart commissioned the thing. I also think Lorin Maazel has his own rival ring-in-an-hour. The real weakness of this approach is that, in the name of artful synthesis, they only do like 60 seconds of Ride of the Valkyries.

Surely Paavo and Neeme have overlapped some? In any father-son shootout I would bet my money on Big P.

I know they've both done The Rite of Spring. And Todd, if so inclined, could work a Neeme-vs-Paavo shootout into his Bartók Concerto for Orchestra exploration.

I'd have to buy a copy from Neeme, and I've never heard or read anyone say that Neeme Jarvi is a must-hear in Bartok.

Maletto/Tomadin with various magnificats, my first impressions are rather positive, the organ at Pinerolo is pretty nice, with some character as it were.

I have tried to figure out the contents of the new 100 CD DHM box by using the info on Amazon.de to search the original albums. Most of the CDs are in alphabetical order according to composer, with the last ones dedicated to thematic compilations. The list is not complete and may have a few errors, but until the official listing shows up might still be of some use. Only a fraction of the CDs were included in the two previous DHM 50 CD boxes, but if you have bought some of the earlier DHM 10 CD boxes on specific composers or groups, there will be more overlap. I think I have about 25% of the recordings already, which still makes the new box a tempting proposition.
