Father Petrenko.

:D

Petrenko seems to have fallen off the musical map over past 3-4 years. He doesn't seem to be garnering as much attention as he has in the past or am I just imagining things?

Well, his Shostakovich cycle ended, but more importantly, he jumped from Naxos to an exclusive contract with EMI, and EMI then imploded. But he's still a leader of two excellent groups in Liverpool and Oslo. The Oslo stuff seems well-regarded but Lawo is just not so well distributed in the USA.

He also records for Onyx, including a set of very well regarded Tchaikovsky symphonies, Elgar symphonies and other stuff.

His Scriabin on Lawo is very well thought of, also

He has agreed to take over as head of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra so we will see whether he continues to record...

Looks great! Any idea when it's supposed to be out? There doesn't seem to be much info on it yet.

I'm curious what it will be.  :)

Reports seem to indicate that it is hit & miss with these guys.
Sofar I only tried the Gombert motets vol. I,  which I liked with minor reservations.

Anyhow, Obrecht is seriously underrepresented in the catalogue.

Yes but unfortunately it's two masses which have been well recorded before, Maria Zart and Fortuna Desparata. I wouldn't be surprised to see a release of Maria Zart from Cappella Pratensis soon, though when I saw them sing it last year I thought it flopped -- but you know, they will learn from the concerts I guess.

I've started to really get into exploring the Gombert Magnificat cycle.

Try the Bauldewyn CD, which has the virtue of being the only recording of some, if not all,  of the works included. (It's actually a double CD.) Just watch out for the bass masquerading as a drone.
