Oh thank you I did not know that.  I don't have a lot of Rattle recordings to judge.

Well, I understand you're a huge Wagnerian, but I don't think you'll be pleased with his fussy, micromanaging style. Granted, I still love Rattle's earlier work with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, especially in Szymanowski and Britten, but give him Mahler or Bruckner and he turns the music into a frustrating listening experience. He's so obsessed with the finer details that the bigger picture becomes lost. I'm sorry but he'll never be a Boulez and needs to understand this and he sure as hell isn't a Bernstein or a Karajan.

Interesting comments, thanks. I wasn't going to purchase the recordings in any case, but found the idea of a Rattle Ring cycle less than compelling.

I heard him do Rheinegold in a concert performance, with BPO I think. He had an outstanding Alberich, a guy called Oleg Bryjak,  Alberich stole the show; I now see that Bryjak died recently in tragic circumstances. It was very good indeed. I don't remember any problems about the orchestral playing. I would certainly be ready to go to a ring cycle with him at the helm.

Hough's second recording of the Fantasy (and probably second recording of the Arabeske although I haven't kept track). Will admit to being currently disinterested, but will wait for reviews.

If anyone buys it, please let me know how it is. Rignol seems to be a specialist in French music - St Colombe, Marais - and that could inform theses suites in an interesting way.

Giving it a run on Spotify is more likely.  :)

I believe, there are not that many recordings on viola da gamba?  I have Pandolfo, which is very nice.

That series from Versailles hasn't released on streaming platforms in the past.

I don't believe BRO's Hyperions generally have cutout notches. But I'm not 100% certain, because I transferred that portion of my CD collection to "space-saving (former Jazz Loft) sleeves" over the past year and the jewel boxes are gone. A goodly percentage of my Renaissance Polyphony collection came from Berkshire, Hyperions a large share of that.

The absence of notches and abundance of inventory led me to assume that Hyperion has some kind of relationship or agreement with BRO, but I could be wrong.

No notches or any marks on any of mine.

I don't have a release date, but new releases featuring Marc-André Hamelin will include a double (2 singles or a 2-disc set?) of works by C.P.E. Bach, a disc of rags by Bolcolm and a disc of Fauré (nocturnes and barcarolles).

The CPE is right down my alley. If it's as good as his Haydn sonatas that'll be an instant classic.

I  have ordered it from a usually reliable amazon mp seller, expected latest delivery four days ago. Not arrived yet, but in these days parcels are often delayed - sometimes more than two weeks.

QuoteFrom the hands of the venerable, New York based imprint, Mode Records, comes a truly monumental release, the first ever complete recording of Bernard Parmegiani's mind-boggling work for tape and three synthesizers, "Stries'" composed in 1980 and almost entirely unheard since.

Very sweet. Melts in the ear.

I've just ordered it, just to assuage my curiosity.

I like it. I'll try to write some notes later.
Curious to read your opinion.

Thi may be of interest for us, who were disappointed with Valotti - and also of general interest:

it arrived this morning, it seems very good. Some fabulous noises come out of a viol.  And the quietness gives the music an intimacy and inwardness which I find appealing.
