What a cheek. They stick "sonatas for harpsichord" on the front, and then they use a bloody modern pianer. Are they taking the piss? Outrageous, they should be sued for misleading advertising.

Pretending illiteracy won't redeem them.

Here's a sampler - not sure I'll be rushing out to buy it. I think that Crown Imperial works best in these arrangements:

Not sure that excerpt from the symphony does either the arrangement or the performance much favour!  The scherzo as played there sounds as lumpy and 'grey' as I've ever heard!

Hmmm.

Ain't seen that much flute rep since the Galway box.

Yes.  I think it will be tomorrow.  I could be wrong.

Hooray OCD fulfilled. Though I can't remember what I thought of their first recording, anyone care to opine?

Yes, I think that I'll give that one a miss!

This is with Maria Skiba and Frank Pschichholz - their recording of Dowland Bk 2 is very special for me, I like her voice.

Korneel Bernolet. What makes it special is the harpsichord, Dulcken 1747 in Antwerp. Alessandrini used a copy of a Dulcken in his Bach release this year -- but this sounds MUCH more special.

Most of the music music is kind of late -- Forqueray, Handel, a bit of Scarlatti and someone called Josse Boutmy from the 18th century. He does the Opfer ricercar a 3, the interpretation is poised, but to me the result seems slightly hesitant -- no duende! He makes this interesting comment about the Bach (and it shows that his vulnerable is my hesitant.)

QuoteNot only does it allow the instrument
to sound at its most vulnerable, but it also
demonstrates two characteristics of the 1747
Dulcken: the possibility for obtaining dynamic
nuances on one keyboard on one registration
through total control of fi nger speed, and an
unusual resonance from the sound board that
is aided by free damping of the stops not in
use, creating a cloud of sound that continues
to resound aft er each fi nal chord, completely
independent of the stone acoustics of the
Vleeshuis itself.

Not understood. To me this is blah-blah.

Well, John Jeter's up against some stiff competition from the newly released album of Price's Symphonies 1 and 3 with the Philadelphia Orchestra and Nezet-Seguin on DG! :D

I noticed that in both 1 and 3, Jeter's track timings are faster in every movement. So much faster in first movements I suspect YNS may be observing a repeat, but faster in pretty much all 8 total. Of course, Jeter recorded 1 with a semipro orchestra from Arkansas, not exactly the Philadelphians. Will try to do comparative listening some time.

The first CD does not look bad either. The Bohac intrigues me.
