Quote from: Der lächelnde Schatten on April 16, 2025, 06:25:46 PMBut as @Brian points out, it appears to be an AI-generated image and these get an automatic raspberry from me.

The question in my mind is whether the image counts as an arrangement or as a transcription.  ;)

Quote from: prémont on April 15, 2025, 01:40:11 AMWonder about the philosophical reasons for not adding a gamba in sonatas 3,4 and 5.

Maybe a lack of coin.  ;)

They argue that "The viola da gamba highlights the severe and rigorous character of the first sonata, emphasising its intricate counterpoint. In the second sonata, its presence evokes the sonata in D major for viola da gamba and obbligato harpsichord, BWV 1028, with its air of witty conversation. Its presence is also fundamental for the long bass pedal in the second movement. Finally, in the sixth sonata, the viola da gamba brings out the symphonic qualities of the first and last movements, and the refined polyphony of the middle movements"

But maybe equally good arguments could be made for 3, 4 and 5. I'll listen to Brunello/Loreggian/Galligioni, presuming they add gamba or cello in all sonatas.

@Selig @prémont Here's a link to the booklet of the Heym/Zanzu/Coin. I've just started listening to it, sounds different! Two versions of BWV 1019.

Wierd you can't see an attachment.

The performer is Edelton Gloeden, violão/guitar. The title is Integrais/Complete Works, and the composers listed are Camargo Guarnieri, Cesar Guerra-Piexe, Claudio Santoro, Osvaldo Lacerda, and Edino Krieger.

I'd presume this is the complete guitar music of those composers, but I have no idea of how much they wrote. In fact, I've never heard of Lacerda or Krieger before now.

ETA: Roy's link gives the track listing. 2 CDs, Guerra-Piexe fills up one of them, the other four fill up the other CD.

That's good news -- I've seen him play 958 - 960 in concert, quite a while ago, but it was interesting enough to make me keen to hear this.

I would presume it's a work by Ms. Cheetham-Fraillon, who is an Aboriginal Australian composer.
Here's her Wikipedia bio.

Perhaps @Madiel knows something more about her?

Jaime Martin would be the conductor.

I do know about Deborah Cheetham as an opera singer who has also become a composer, yes. Though I did NOT know she'd become hyphenated a couple of years ago  ;D

I just found an article about the composition in question.
