This was a new release twelve months ago, but it seems to have been completely missed.

I think Apple fired all BIS' graphic designers.
Oh, I like the Furtwangler 2nd Symphony! On my wish list. I should keep away from this thread  ::)

Quote from: André on April 10, 2025, 04:20:49 AMHa ! When I saw it, it reminded me of some cover pics of Finnish music (Sibelius, Klami, etc).
Yes! Great cover. The 14th Symphony is completely unknown to me!

Particularly noteworthy to this instrument are its six pedals, which serve the purpose of changing the quality and colour of the sound, including the infamous "bassoon stop"

Funny sound on the voice track.

Casal Quartet were pioneers of the FX Richer cycle -- for that reason alone I will check this one.

It's probably too early to be thinking about JULY.

There was room on the disc for The Wood Dove, but they didn't bother.

Notice the world premiere recordings of fanfares by Britten, Vaughan Williams, and Walton, plus the premiere of a Britten funeral march. Interesting!

"The Polish-born composer, Marta Ptaszynska, studied under Nadia Boulanger and Olivier Messiaen, and since 1972 has worked in the United States, where she forged cultural links between the two countries. Ptaszynska has composed in all major genres and has worked with many leading musicians and ensembles. Her harmonic writing is often refined and translucent, with an expressive intensity generated through contrasts. The orchestral works in this album illustrate her gifts for creating evocative atmospheres. Dedicated to and premiered by Yehudi Menuhin, the Concerto Grosso explores Baroque archetypes."

A nice touch: the cover photo actually comes from one of the live performances recorded here.
