I am looking for a copy of the legendary Giulini Concertgebouw Ravel recording on Sony. Anyone knows where i can get a copy at an affordable price? Perhaps someone can make a .... gulps.....

Looks like no one really knows it....maybe it's not that legendary after all?

Found a copy at HMV Japan:

I have a pretty good visual memory for CD covers, and don't recall ever seeing that one!  It looks great, though--do report back on how it is.

I have this one, or used to have it. I cannot find it right now.

It is from his later, ultra-slow period, as I recall.

I have heard great things about the Mother Goose in this cd, and apparently the La Mer is indeed ultra slow. I also purchased the Tahra Bruckner 5th with Jochum and the same orchestra in this purchase, can't wait to hear what it is about all the raving!

What's the diff between Tahra Jochum Bruckner 5th with the Philips 50 version?
Is it a diff performance?

How much did you pay for this?

PS: I watched Karajan and the BPO in Bruckner 5 in 1981. So if Testament bring this out - I am buying it! Already bought the Testament Heldenleben 1985 concert with HvK and the BPO. CH was there too!

Dont remember the exact figures now but you can check all the items out at hmv.co.jp. Regarding the philips issue, i really do not know what is the difference! No one ever mentions that the legendary recording being the Philips so i never thought it would be the same performance, or perhaps?

MichaelRabin

Sorry - never liked that Philips Jochum RCOA performance. Karajan BPO is my standard favourite of Bruckner 5.

Anyways, after some checking indeed, the Tahra is not the 60s Philips but Jochum's last Bruckner 5th in the 80s. It's tremendously legendary, for what reason though, i can only find out in April. Cheers!  ;D

Any luck with the Giulini RCOA Ravel CD? I may have a mini-CD sampler of the CD tucked away somewhere in my collection. But is only 1 track of that CD.

Howard - apparently it is on this CD compilation above.
