Yesterday, the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra opened its concert with Homunculus C.F (1960) by Julia Perry, a composer new to me. The piece is short, about 5 minutes long, for 8 percussionists, celesta/piano, and harp. I found it enchanting.

Wow, that was really unique.  Thanks for posting!  Crazy to think this was from 62 years ago from a composer I've never heard of before.  Very nice introduction from the conductor too.   My friend/masterclass teacher plays in that orchestra too!

So happy you liked it—frankly caught me off guard—and yes, 62 years! The piece sounds like it was written much more recently.

And wonderful about your friend and teacher! The orchestra is excellent. I have been a fan for awhile, but never heard them live, either in Cincinnati or elsewhere. (I did follow with interest the recent renovation of their hall.) That changed when they began doing livestreams. You might be interested in some of their concerts coming up:
