Yesterday I was partly listening to one of the TV music channels, and as I was involved in other activities I didn't register on memory whose work was being telecast on the General Music Channel.  I only heard parts of the work, and I was impressed; I should obviously have written down the name.

Is there anyone who knows of a concerto composed by a relatively unknown, either American or British, whose name could be: Conner, or Connell? Something similar.  I tried  an online search but came up with nothing.

The work is obviously 20th century.  Tonal, no avant garde persuasions. This one may quickly pass onto oblivion.  Definitely a relatively "unknown composer.

This may be a long shot, but what about the 1941 Concerto Piccolo for Piano and Orchestra of Henry Cowell, who for much of his life was a wild experimentalist, but later on mellowed extraordinarily. It's the last three tracks of this disc; listen to the samples and see if it's what you're looking for: http://www.amazon.com/American-Piano-Concertos-Henry-Cowell/dp/B00005RZWC

(note that the first movement is actually somewhat harsh, but if you only heard the last two it'd seem completely tonal)

Thanks for the reply.  I'm familiar with many of cowell's work.  I shall probably have to forget this one, but thanks again.  Much appreciated.

Such channels always keep a record of what they play: call them and find out!  Give them the day and approximate time.

Or see if they have a website: often the "playlists" are available there.
