Harpo

Hi. I'm Harpo from the East Coast USA. I play a number of instruments with varying degrees of proficiency: Celtic harp, piano, acoustic guitar, recorder, lap dulcimer. I also have training in solo and choral singing. I like chamber music from all periods, Impressionists and Renaissance, but, frankly, I like performing music myself even more than listening to it. I am a Broadway Baby, liking all kinds of musicals, with special affinities for Sondheim and R&H. It's wonderful how one song can be a whole play in itself.

Hi Harpo, and greetings from NYC.  Although I'm not much into musicals generally, I do like Sondheim--a lot.  Hope you enjoy yourself at GMG, which is filled with lots of fine people into all sorts of music.

Didn't Sondheim also say, "A vision's just a vision if it's only in your head. If no one gets to hear it, it's as good as dead." ??

I just found out about a "dulcimer festival" right down the road, May 1 weekend. I'm tempted to take their beginner's hammered dulcimer workshop. I know I can get the hang of those "courses" if I spend more time at it.

Does your dulcimer have a trick rubber-band string in honor of your namesake?

Nope, sorry. But I attached a clown horn to one of the hammers.  ;D
