I've tired to make this an eclectic mix, there was a lot I had to leave out.
Cheers

This one I already had imaged in my list Holden, but I went with their BBC album instead. :)
There will never be another era like the Golden Age of Hollywood.  We didn't know how to blow up buildings then so we had no choice but to tell great stories with great characters.-Ben Mankiewicz

Todd

The universe is change; life is opinion. - Marcus Aurelius, Meditations

People would rather believe than know - E.O. Wilson

Propaganda death ensemble - Tom Araya

Panem et Artificialis Intelligentia

This wasn't easy for sure. I regret that I had to leave out pearl jam and so many others that I love, but this is what I came up with. A Night at the Opera was the first album I ever heard (on 8 Track, actually) and Lateralus by Tool was the last album I heard that really wowed me. Everything else came inbetween. I am very proud of this list and feel that it would serve me well.

5. Who: who's next?
6. Black Sabbath: sabbath bloody sabbath
7. Led Zeppelin: III
8. Led Zeppelin: IV

Paging RussellG..... $:)

It's ages since I've tried to do a list like this, and even then it was probably only top five.  I'll work on it and report back later...but there's gunna be some prog, and there's gunna be some Zappa...

His bad luck shall be his punishment.  ;D

First I was tempted to post the first 12 Zappa albums, but then I realised I haven't even heard most of them.

Next I thought of just reprinting Karl's list, but then I realised I don't listen to prog and Zappa ALL of the time.

OK, I'll do it properly tonight  :)

Kullervo

Brian Eno - Another Green World
Cocteau Twins - Heaven or Las Vegas
David Sylvian - Secret of the Beehive (perfect autumn album!)
Kate Bush - Hounds of Love (The re-release with the album-era b-sides)
Lush - Split
My Bloody Valentine - Loveless
Radiohead - Kid A
Roxy Music - Country Life
Scott Walker - Climate of Hunter
The Blue Nile - A Walk Across the Rooftops
Todd Rundgren - Hermit of Mink Hollow
Yellow Magic Orchestra - BGM

George

Cool, Corey, I wanna check out that Eno, as I have been meaning to get something by him. Is his stuff anything like the stuff he produces? James, U2, etc...

Not really. He was an interesting producer in that the albums he produced all have his signature "sound", but also sound nothing like his own music — but you should hear it anyway; you may be surprised.

Same here.  I also wanna hear The Blue Nile from Corey's list.

RussellG

In no order.

The artist/title is legible on most...the first one is Frank Zappa Sheik Yerbouti, while the combo sun and moon faces is King Crimson Lark's Tongues in Aspic.

George

Nice list, Russell. I almost added Late for the Sky, myself. I should check out St. Dominics Preview and a few of the others that I haven't heard yet.  :)

They are so tough these lists.  I don't know how the likes of Dylan, Elton John, Joni Mitchell, The Moody Blues, Jethro Tull and Genesis missed out  :(

Perhaps after we're done with people's first 12 we should imagine an extra suitcase each for the next 12  :D

As I said in another thread, if I have to count over ten there's no guarantee I'll get it right  ;D

I suppose you're referring to the Gram Parson's CD, which does contain two albums although there's only one disc. I'll take a chance that the guard at the island's border is unfamiliar with Parson's music and won't notice the transgression.

Sarge
the phone rings and somebody says,
"hey, they made a movie about
Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."

This one looks like fun, except I don't think that I can FIND pictures of my 12 Desert Island Discs. Let's see:

And there are so many others; I'm sure that the lineup would change if I did this thing again in a week.

Excepting the Stevie Wonder album . . . .

For you, there might be a brighter star . . . .
