...Not to buy every last CD on the planet.

No, really, It is.

Benji

I'm afraid not! See, music buying is based on a sound scientific principle: diffusion.

Out there, there are lots of great CDs (high concentration), and in my house there are relatively few (low concentration). So by the law of diffusion, there is always going to be a net postive flow in my direction.

Do you need a diagram or are you suitably convinced?  $:)

Rubbish, that's defeatist talk.  Every time you pass up an alternate recording of Beethoven's 7th, the terrorists win.   $:)
The man that hath no music in himself,
Nor is not moved with concord of sweet sounds,
Is fit for treasons, stratagems, and spoils.
The motions of his spirit are dull as night,
And his affections dark as Erebus.
Let no such man be trusted.

Is it okay to be satisfied with only one recording of a "masterpiece"?  ::)  ;D

Yes, it is!!  Thank you Corey, I thought I was the only one.  ::)

If you want to bring out the OCD in someone, just introduce them to classical music.  Its like a virus.

No, it's not!  I can stop any time I want to!  Really!!!

Oh, hi guys....  Wow, those are awfully long sleeves on that jacket.  Funny how they tie in the back...

So by that rationale, where is the line between enuff CDs and excessive?

Based on my scientific study, 730 CDs are just enough.

Guess I'm about 1/2 way through my journey then. You mean, I can finally relax after 730?  Thank God!  :D

My latest cd, which arrived this morning from across the Atlantic courtesy of Arkiv and which is a collection of clarinet and flute music(including Walter Piston's quite 'modern' sounding Clarinet and Flute Concertos), is my cd No. 2600. I have absolutely no intention of stopping as long as cd companies continue to issue new repertoire which appeals to me. However, I am not one of those people who wants to collect more than two or three versions of the great works of the classical canon. The masterpieces of Beethoven, Brahms, Wagner, Bruckner, Mahler, Sibelius etc etc are in my collection in versions I love and admire and that will just do me fine ;D

What if you like another style of music (rock, jazz, blues, whatever) as much as classical?  Can you have 730 each, or must one limit one's self to 365 each?

730 total. Uh...not that I have so few.  ;D But I'm culling, I'm culling...
