On this date was born Benny Goodman.
What do you thing of him as a classical
clarinetist?

Benny was a fine clarinetist and I enjoy listening to him. I don't think there are any recordings of classical clarinet literature by him that haven't been bettered by other players, but a lot of these pieces owe their very existence to Goodman: Bartok's Contrasts, concertos by Copland, Hindemith, Milhaud.
