I wonder how many snowplows the City of London has?

I heard that London got some rare snow today which brought its traffic to a standstill.  I was shocked when I heard it was only about 15 cm, which is about 6".  This is not much snow by our standard.

And come summertime, the whole nation stops again when it gets above, oh I don't know, 27 degrees Celsius :D.

Yes, a problem here in North Carolina - if a heavy snow occurs, the equipment is just not available to clear off the streets, esp. in the neighborhoods - often the main roads will be perfectly fine, but you can't get out to them!  >:(

Boy, last week we had a 'cold' spell in the teens (i.e. F) here, which is cold for us - literally freezing our AS#$S OFF!  We don't buy heavy winter coats, scarves, hats, etc. in our usual winter climate - but today nearly 70 degrees F outside!  What a change -  ;D

I know there are a few Australian GMGers, but don't know if any are from Victoria. Hope you are all safe from the bushfires and take care.

New Scientist had a fun map of what the world may end up like with slight temperature increases (due to shifting dunes, even parts of south Europe and central Asia become arid) - and more interestingly, what could be done with those areas to create energy. It's completely speculative, but fun.

Speaking of climate change, reading about the open air markets that used to be held on the frozen Thames in the 17th century

It's raining!!! And a cool breeze blowing. In a day when the maximum temperatures recorded at the two met. stations were over 41 C.

It's raining in my apartment.  My, that's very Tarkovskian, isn't it?  A metaphor for one's most inner turmoil.

Hmmm - now on a weekend trip to Asheville, NC - had some 'outdoor' activities planned, but the forecast for the days that we're here are for rain!  A BUMMER, but there are plenty of 'indoor' options for us!  :D
