Some time ago I lost a link to a youtube video with a piano piece by an Austrian composer from 19th century. It sounded very close to Chopin but had a lot of its own value. The composer was one of the less known but not completely obscure. He might also have been from Germany but this is highly unlikely as I suppose I remembered the nationality. Any ideas?

Thanks for the tip but this is neither Austrian nor piano :) I found mine while wondering who else wrote nocturnes besides Chopin and what I found by the Austrian composer sounded a bit "nocturnal" :)

No, and not Tchaikovsky either ;-) I tried Wiki with "Austrian composers" lists etc. but don't have a clue. The composer was more likely in the latter half of the 19th century and was probably a pianist himself.

Well, it's true that Rheinberger is born in Liechtenstein, but he was 19th century, semi-obscure today, worked in Austria and Germany and wrote a bunch of piano music. I know, I have a lot of it. :)  However, I'll grant you, none of it sounds like nocturnes. Still, it was a good guess, and I'm sticking to it. ;)

PS - anyway, maybe someone will listen to his music now, after all this advertising. :D

Alright, I just thought you were making fun of the idea :) I guess I didn't know any composers from Luxembourg so thanks for that. However, I am still awaiting any suggestions for the Austrian one.
