In the last couple of days:

I've dipped into the big Slava box already - old friends, like the Shosta concertos 0:) (how great are these!), and new stuff, like Myaskovsky and the Britten cello suites.

I believe that is the first time I have seen Lenny sporting a beard on a cover of a recording.
There will never be another era like the Golden Age of Hollywood.  We didn't know how to blow up buildings then so we had no choice but to tell great stories with great characters.-Ben Mankiewicz

Agree.  I wonder who the soloists for the 9th were.  Is this set essentially a repackaging of the following CD with other LvB works?

Purchases this week:

Wow Corey, where did you get the Tournemire?

Kullervo

MDT has a sale on all Marco Polo discs, but they were missing a few from the cycle. The others I got from Amazon marketplace at a reasonable price.

Beginning my Massive Mahler Expansion, I found these in the used bins today.  Thanks to the GMG members who proffered recommendations.  The Judd M1 already sounded superior to my current version (Levi on Telarc) in the car coming home.

Also noteworthy: the way he holds the baton in that picture.

Great choice!! :)

Evening, Russell!

Morning George.  I'm working my way through these new Mahler CDs now.  It's always fascinating to hear the FIRST alternate performance of a work you've come to know very well through just a single recording.  I usually find it difficult to imagine how they could be performed any other way, until I hear it.

I guess that's why I'm a computer programmer and not a conductor  ;D

Sometimes he gets even by delivering a crushed box ...   ;D
