Now we can have two copies of this disc BaxMan on our desert island....may come in handy if one gets scratched or we loan out one of our copies and it does not get returned.  ;D

I'm really looking forward to listening to this one too, Bogey. My wife likes Copland too which helps!  ;)

Spotted this Szell rarity at JPC: came in the mail today:

Also today: I have Ormandy's Mahler on LP but decided to buy the CD too. The Goodman disc fills two holes in my collection:

the phone rings and somebody says,
"hey, they made a movie about
Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."

Another déjà vu8)
But not even with double posts you'll ever surpass our legendary steamroller Harry on this thread...  ;)

Q
So, what is the proper way to announce "Purchases Today"? When you order a CD? When it arrives? So very few purchases are able to arrive the same day they were paid for.

I dunno, I usually do it the day I actually purchase. That's kind of like the old accounting question of when is the revenue credited, when the sale is made or cash received?  :D

It doesn't really matter. I usually wait until I have the CD in my hand to make an announcement here.

The way I do it is either post when a CD arrives or when I order it. I don't do both, which is what Que is pointing to.

It doesn't matter as long as one is consistent within the frame of one order.
I wait until it arrives, physically, but posting in "Purchase" after clicking the
button of the on-line retailer makes plenty sense, too, because then posting
under "listening now" is staggered out a little more... avoiding essentially
double-posting in two categories. Speaking of which:

Look what the Cat dragged in, Part V:

Louis Ferdinand von Preussen - Piano Trios v.2 - Parnassus Trio - MDG

(Not available in the US yet, apparently. Couldn't believe such a high quality
trio like the Parnassuses tackle these works... but now that I'm listening, it's
surprisingly lovely music... guaranteed to please the neighbors.)

Boris Yoffe (Joffe) - "Musical Semantics" - SWR Megadisc

(Not available in the US yet, apparently. Heard Yoffe's work recently in a recital-
series
named after Joffe's ongoing "From the Book of Quartets" opus.

Joseph Gabriel Rheinberger - Organ Works v.8 - Barber Rübsam - Naxos

jwinter

The man that hath no music in himself,
Nor is not moved with concord of sweet sounds,
Is fit for treasons, stratagems, and spoils.
The motions of his spirit are dull as night,
And his affections dark as Erebus.
Let no such man be trusted.

You can never have too much Copland.

Amen.

It makes the most sense to me to post here when you order something, then when it arrives and you play it for the first time, post in Listening To.  Of course some of us purchase such vast quantities of CDs it can be months between arrival and first spin  :)

I think you're right, Russell. I don't buy that many that it would be an issue for me, but I suspect I'm atypical.

Just ordered these 2 CD's from Amazon ...

LOL.  My Helmut Walcha 's Complete Bach Organ Works on Archive still have not been played yet since the set arrived in December and the 60-CD Harnoncourt Bach Cantatas set arrived in early February and the set is still in its cellophane ...

The Stravinsky is for Les Noces.

From the best recording period 1974-1979 of Chandos, comes this re release of the Prokofiev Symphonies as done by Walter Weller.
Brilliant is offering the 4 cd's for just 12,99, so I have a go at them. Its not as if I have no complete cycles of these works, but I am intrigued by the compositions as such.

This is an old Decca release that used to be available on various sales for a decent price, but has been OOP for some time, fine to see it restored to circulation (I have it on Decca).

Amen.

Between Copland and Barber, I have fewer than half-dozen recordings and I have over 7000 LP's/CD's.   I guess our tastes are quite different.   LOL

As you might have guessed Harry, I will be very interested to hear what you think of that set.

Well, it is also true that some Copland is better than none.   ;)
