Scarpia

Correct, Borders.  Had a Borders.com order that was slated to be shipped to a store that was being closed and canceling the order was an ordeal (much time on the phone).  But I've been patroling this Blu-ray for a while never saw a decent deal on it (except for importcds, which I avoid for video because twice they sent me a region 2 dvd even though it was advertised as region 1).

Ah yes, now I remember the Borders saga. Thanks MI & Scarpia. Glad you (Scarps) found a deal!

Sergeant Rock

Norrington's work in Stuttgart intrigues me. An example arrived today: Mendelssohn 1 & 5.

Just ordered this beauty! :D

Lilas Pastia

Britten: (plus Frank Bridge Variations, Prelude and Fugue for Strings)

Glass: . Includes La Belle et la bête (Overture), The Hours suite, Mishima, The Secret Agent, Echorus, Company and Closing

Pärt: . Includes Cantus in memoriam Benjamin Britten, Summa, Pilgrim's Song, Mozart Adagio and Spiegel im  spiegel

Cras: . Haven't heard it yet, but I have a good idea what to expect from this voice, choir and organ combination by breton composer Jean Cras (1879-1932). An underrated composer if ever there was one.

Hamelin: Études and other piano pieces . Hamelin's pianism needs no encomium by now. I'll soon find out about his talents as a composer.

Pierné: .
Pierné's music is among the best kept secrets of french music. Paysages franciscains is a lovely work. I haven't heard L'An mil (The Year One Thousand), but I've read some nice reviews.

More Pierné:
this pic is from the 1993 Timpani release of the complete ballet, of which I had a home made copy. It's been reissued in 2011 with a new cover (couldn't find it on the net). Cydalyse is fully the equal of Ravel's Daphnis, a gorgeously melodic and intoxicating musical confection that ends way too soon despite its 75 minute length.

Just ordered this as well :).

The new erato

A small order from mdt. My Holst holdings are meagre, so some recent Eloquence reissues (this label continues to pump out unmissable bargains!) provided a fine opportunity:

HOLST Choral Hymns from the Rig Veda, Savitri, Seven Part-Songs, The Evening-Watch. Janet Baker, Robert Tear, Thomas Helmsley, Osian Ellis, The Purcell Singers, English Chamber Orchestra / Imogen Holst. Eloquence

HOLST Humbert Wolfe Settings, The Hymn of Jesus, Three Folk Songs, Song of the Blacksmith, Pastoral, Swallow leaves her nest. Peter Pears, Benjamin Britten, The Purcell Singers / Imogen Holst, BBC SO / Adrian Boult. Eloquence

And another valuable song series from Hyperions requires vigilance from the first release, so not to be totally backlogged:

LISZT Complete Songs Volume 1. Matthew Polenzani, Julius Drake. Hyperion Records

Nice discs, Q!

I would like those Schütz, especially the Bernius. I have considered it several times, but with no reason- just financial reasons, I suppose - I have not purchased it, yet. I would appreciate some comment. I currently just have Junghänel's version.

The Meyerson is a fine disc, although I don't know if I am completely satisfied with the sound engineering. I imagine it's because fortepiano and harpsichord don't have exactly the same sound requirements.

Daverz

For the Ancient Airs and Dances, which I seemed to have missed so far.

The Bernius was kinda cheap (€12), I just ordered Schwanengesang by Rademann and passed over the much praised Herrweghe. Rademann's sober, penetrating style in (nice) Church acoustic proved itself more idiomatically Lutheran in comparison.

The Merulo was just €5 - primarily to get into the music. On sampling I was not quite convinced by Meyerson Balbastre - my impression is that she should have used just the harpsichord, but at €7 I decided to have a go. :)
