I bet it would be interesting to see live. All that percussion and all those aggressive rhythms I'm sure would be loud like a rock concert. :) My ultimate dream is hearing Bartok, Stravinsky, or Berg live, especially played by a world-class orchestra and conducted by someone who is renown. This would be a dream come true. What would be an even bigger dream come true would be hearing their music on the same program! :D 8)

Well sometimes the Australian Chamber Orchestra does some fully modern programs here on their Australian tours. But this is the exception rather than the rule, ensembles like this tend to mix & match the old & new a bit. Which is okay, I'm into everything more or less. I tend to avoid the Sydney Symphony, because they usually don't play the kind of music I like & they're more expensive. But I may or may not go to see Ashkenazy conduct Mahler's 10th with Hindson's double piano concerto as a bonus (a premiere) but I'll see how things go in terms of money & other concerts on. But I definitely want to go to see the Australian Youth Orchestra in July do a program of Nielsen - Debussy - Vine - I think this is an interesting line up for sure...

That does sound interesting. I've never even seen Vine on a program before...

I saw you bought one already, but there is one I like that is a bit different - Blomstedt (shoudl MTT not suffice). His is quite transparent (really hear all the parts well), the singing is very good, and he takes a lighter approach. Oddly, I didn't like this at first, but after 15+ years, it is virtually the only one I come back to with any regularity.

I like Blomstedt's Carmina, too--probably my favorite version. The San Francisco Symphony and Chorus sound magnificent, and ukrneal is right about the singers. The whole thing is quite beautifully recorded, too.

You're not the master of your domain any more?

That's more than I might strictly answer to; but I have been at liberty this month.

How about April?

Decided to get this one too! 0:).

I ususally avoid magazine purchases, I've too much paper already, but the latest Classical FM has Smetana's Ma Vlast as a bonus.
And in the mail the Dutton Brian (Symphony 10, Concerto for Orchestra, etc) and the 4-disc Beecham set...

That does sound good. Who's conducting/playing?
