When does the fiddlin' babes swimwear edition, erm, come out?

I'm kinda surprised it hasn't come out already....

Veit Bach-a baker who found his greatest pleasure in a little cittern which he took with him even into the mill and played while the grinding was going on. In this way he had a chance to have the rhythm drilled into him. And this was the beginning of a musical inclination in his descendants. JS Bach

A long story short: For many years I struggled with OCD and kept buying and selling everything because keeping things made my anxiety go through the roof. A long, long time ago, this was the first CD I ever bought and it hooked me on classical music. I re-purchased it, in its original form, a few days ago from the Amazon marketplace and it arrived today. It's in pristine condition – still shrink-wrapped and new! – and I'm thrilled to have it back on my shelf now that I am able to control my anxiety better after years of hard psychological work.

Is it a great recording? No. The sound quality is god-awful and the recording of the 3rd concerto is terribly forgettable. But, for whatever reason, this recording of the 2nd concerto was the one that hooked me all those years ago. Needless to say, this recording has a special place in my life and I'll never let it go again.

Just bought two newer Chandos recordings that looked interesting to me:

Bought this for my Dad, he's the Holst man in the family -

And I bought this one for myself...

[asin]B0044FEZD0[/asin]

I really enjoyed Bavouezet's Bartok concerti recording, also on Chandos, but he seems to also share an affinity with French Impressionism a la Debussy and Ravel (he recorded many highly acclaimed recordings of Debussy solo piano works), I'm anxious to hear who he plays these concerti.

This will be my last purchase for awhile until the new Delius recording comes out with Andrew Davis/BBC Symphony Orch. which I'm really looking forward to hearing.

When it comes to babes in swimwear, I'm a hopeless fiddler.

I'd like to hear what you think about the Rathaus symphonies when you get around to them - I've heard a few bits and bobs by him and loved it all.

That's really a fine disc, which I bought ages ago, browsing through my listening notes, it made quite some impression on me, well written music, that kept my attention throughout.

As it's just arrived . . . I should guess this is included in the tale of 84.

But I should let Sarge speak himself

Upon recommendations in this fine forum:

[asin]B002HIEIRE[/asin]

I hope you'll enjoy it. It's always a worry when I emphatically recommend something, that its appeal may end up being peculiar to me!

On another note, 200 pages unread! People have been busy. :o

Well, I was excited when this came in the mail today (From Amazon.ca - ImportCDs.com independent seller).  However, this was what was in the package I opened.   >:D :-\

Lot of recent recommendations from the usual publications; put in an order for a handful below - the Alwyn will complement the other chamber disc of his works that I own; the Bartok w/ Bavouzet will be an interesting comparison to the Donohue disc that I own w/ Rattle; Jacob is new to me, but not the recorder which I do enjoy!  Finally, I debated on the Mozart works (already have several sets which I really like), however historic recordings (hopefully remastered) w/ two wonderful performers -  :D

Alwyn, William - Chamber Music w/ many on Naxos.
Bartok, Bela - Piano Concertos w/ Bavouzet et al.
Jacob, Gordon - Recorder Music w/ Knight et al.
Mozart, WA - Violin Sonatas w/ Szeryng & Ingrid Haebler

This is a very good recording and I was surprised by how great the communication was between Bavouzet and Noseda. They were definitely on the same page in these performances. I hope Noseda starts a Bartok cycle with the BBC Philharmonic.
