If you do that you will get the impression that this is a web site populated by mental cases who perpetually get upset over nonexistent affronts.

My MI policy is based on a quote from the character Lt. Fancy from one of my favorite cop shows, NYPD Blue.  "My idea's when I hear an ass out in the field braying, I don't feel any deep need to start braying back."

The latest IRR had a long Liszt article with strong recommendations for this work and this performance in particular, cheap at mdt so I went along and ordered it.

LISZT Christus. Benita Valente, Marjana Lipovsek, Peter Lindroos, Tom Krause, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra / James Colon. Apex 3cds

Definitely one of the most listenable of the Romantic oratorios, and Liszt provided it with a very rich scoring and Wagnerian development which helps to weather its duration. Great tunes too!

That is a very interesting recording, Erato. I haven't listened to in years but I remember liking it for the most part. There aren't many recordings of that massive work available.
Glad you like it. Back to being friends ? - I'm in a better mood today.  ;)

Looking forward to hearing it, Liszt is not a favorite of mine in general though I like some of his piano stuff (the Benediction eg is sublime, the piano sonata...), but his sacred music is more or less totally unknown to me.

And being a nut for the baroque period in general (both hisorically and culturally), and being interested in baroque opera in general, I added this as well:

Yeah, I got a VISA gift card of around 200$ from colleagues at work in connection with an anniversary. Used it for the "Liege box" at Cypres and a handful of smaller orders, it is soon empty.....

Well, I must confess some years ago, I gave one star to the amazing DHM anniversary box set. I had pre-ordered it on Amazon, but the date of the pre-order arrived and I didn't receive any confirmation mail from them. After a week I asked what it had happened and they replied that didn't have stock and, therefore, I should wait one month to know if the product would be available again. I was really furious and I clearly explained my reasons.

Well, Amazon's customer service is everyday more and more disappointing. One day they steal a ebook from your Kindle, another don't fullfil your pre-orders and so.

The predicted date for the Vivarte box set was April, 12, but today I have received this mail:

QuoteHello,

Got the same mail. Maybe they have discovered that European amazons are selling it for 120 Euros and that their European customer base isn't totally stupid.

Should have used CDUniverse.

I could not find this box on JPC or Amazon UK

Recent purchases:

Schumann!

These primarily for the op. 133, but happy to have another Davidsbündlertänze. The pedal piano stuff is also new to me.

I've only recently got into Schumann's songs. I've had Petre Munteanu's Preiser Schubert and Schumann set for a few years now but only listened properly to the entire disc last month. More fool me! :-[ What I'd previously thought of as 'the stuff after Dichterliebe' is great (op. 24 and op. 39). I liked Graham Johnson's Schubert project, so his Schumann seemed a good bet. The Schreier/Schiff had a couple of mentions here on the boards so I decided to get that one as well.

Good listening so far. :)

Grechaninov, a composer I am unfamiliar with, so this will be a first listen to both composer and work!

As for the Schumann recording, I've already had the opportunity to listen to both the Piano Concerto (Argerich/COE/Harnoncourt) and a first full true listen ever to Schumann's late and much ignored Violin Concerto in D minor (Kremer/COE/Harnoncourt).

Review:  I had a lukewarm impression to the performance of the Piano Concerto.  This work is one of my favorite Piano Concertos of any composer, and I was a bit disappointed with the blahze performance, especially considering it was Argerich/COE/Harnoncourt).  I much, much prefer the recording I have with Bolet on the piano.

As for the Violin Concerto though, I was blown away, both by the work, which I've listened to only fully for the first time.  It is a gorgeous work, and even though Schumann had gone bonkers by then, perhaps that mental instability actually helped contribute to the humaness and great beauty of this work.  I thoroughly enjoyed it and looked forward to listening to it very often to familiarize myself with the piece.

If Sony fails to deliver the product, what can they do?  I don't see any web sites claiming to have the set in stock.

I wish Sony would put together a L'Archibudelli box.  That's one I'd go for in a second.

It's easy, to send an email saying: Sony (or the supplier) has failed to deliver this box set on the announced date (if that's the case). I don't see it so hard. But that's not Amazon's style:

Isn't the following essentially the same, but without naming names?

For what it's worth, Amazon.fr says the set releases on April 25, Importcds.com says it's discontinued.   Probably Sony canceled the release without telling anyone.

I don't think so, Navneeth. I want a real explanation; if Amazon offers something for a specific day, I want a real explanation when they can't fulfill their compromise that day. When information is not clear, there is too much room for speculations. Just look at the previous post by Scarpia.

They couldn't obtain it from the supplier, who has not given them information as to when or if the product will be available.  What other information do you need?

I'm suffering a similar annoyance with a release, which I have ordered but which has the message Order now and we'll deliver when available. We'll e-mail you with an estimated delivery date as soon as we have more information. Your account will only be charged when we ship the item.  What it means, I assume, is that label still lists the item as available although it is sold out, and they are waiting to see if enough orders come in to do another production run.  No one else has the disc in stock and I have no reason to believe that Amazon is not doing what they can.

Hehe, somebody didn't read reviews before buying a product ;) The non-paid/partisan Kindle reviews bashed it for this reason.

Well, in all fairness, the book was deleted because someone posted a pirated version and charged $0.99 when the legitimate copyright holder was selling the book for $9.99.   The legitimate copyright holder complained.  What was Amazon to do?   Ultimately Amazon restored the deleted book to people's Kindles for no additional charge and presumably paid the copyright holder the difference.

Ultimately Amazon was vulnerable to this problem because, unlike Apple, they make it easy for independent publishers to sell books on their site.
