Now that I have the confirmation e-mail, I think I can freely tell you all about the clearance sale at Presto. :D ;)

Got myself these two boxes which I believe were available for similar prices at Amazon UK at some months ago.

The Art of the Lute featuring Paul O' Dette, and The Art of the Violin featuring Andrew Manze. And unlike what labels sometimes say, this was literally a case of five CDs available for the price of one. :)

Navneeth

Yes, I bought there too:

You're welcome, like I said it's really only been with Decca and DG that I've had a problem, but there are many other labels that are fine, I just don't buy from them because I don't have the money to waste anymore.
Also, I know Q was inquiring about harpsichord mp3s, and I have Pinnock's 2006 recording of Rameau: Les Cyclopes and I think it's great, I've listened through speakers and headphones and have had no questions regarding quality.

I wonder if there is a site that rates mp3 quality of certain recordings?

We should start one!  I would probably rank BIS at the top since you can buy 'em in flac.  And like you've said I've had no problem with naxos.

I might be into that recording as well.  :)

Though I'd love the use of a nice Érard or Pleyel (which are, I assume nowhere in sight) - this ensemble is too good to pass in this repertoire.

And I added this which was on offer (though not on clearance) to make a nice package:

I'd like to own all of those Tveitt recordings with Ruud on BIS, but they're so expensive. I do own the Naxos series though.

Good call! An excellent recording.

Arrived this morning, Fischer's Hungarian Dances (he orchestrated eight of them):

the phone rings and somebody says,
"hey, they made a movie about
Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."

That's the notoriously expensive one, right?

I'm in the bought-it-on-release club, and it is as excellent as one might suspect; but it's still Hungarian Dances!

Not a disc I return to often, or a disc that changed my life, in other words. ;D

Me too, excellent, but music only relevant for the occasional spin (though brilliantly done for what it is, of coruse!

14 Euro from an Amazon seller. Even with shipping it was still less than full price so I'm happy  8)

What? You have something against Hungarians...or dancing?  ;D  Perhaps a guilty pleasure but I love orchestrated dance music: waltzes, polkas, folk dances. The Brahms set, the Dvorak set, contain some of my favorite music.

Why is innocent music always a guilty pleasure? :)

Peer pressure :D  We're expected to only listen to big, important stuff.

I listen to this quite often too! Such beautiful music - it never fails to put a spring in my step.
Be kind to your fellow posters!!

I really don't! I'm just not too big on innocence; and not old enough to not care, I suppose. ;D

Small doses. Speaking of which, I might as well go give the Fischer a spin. (Speaking of peer pressure.)

It's so true. I can't count the number of times when I've been listening to Sinding's violin miniatures or Johann Strauss or Rimsky-Korsakov or Debussy's Children's Corner and gone to post it in the "What are you listening to?" thread only to discover that somebody has the Brahms piano quartets going, somebody is listening to Petterson's Seventh, and everyone else has decided to spontaneously listen to each other's favorite recordings of the Symphony of Psalms
