Sarge, just make sure you listen to each piece twice in a row!  ;D  By the way, I love Busoni's gargantuan Piano Concerto.  What a great work!

Oh yes, I'll do that. Apparently it's the only way to appreciate Busoni   :D

I love it too. Obviously there is something seriously, seriously wrong with Sara....but we knew that already  ;D ;)

I'm familiar with very little of Busoni, but what I've heard I've enjoyed, is this a good starter set? I noticed the Piano Concerto isn't included, what's a good choice for that?

And if you don't admit that it is good music, we will play it a third time! Ha!

Now listening: Busoni PC (Ohlsson)

I can't advice you. I haven't listened to it yet. It was mentioned favorably in other threads by several folks here, and it's cheap. That's why I bought it. It has chamber and solo piano works too. It seems like a good starter set.

The Piano Concerto: I have Olhsson/Dohnányi/Cleveland but have read good things about Banfield/Herbig and Ogdon/Revenaugh.
Here is a Gramophone review that mentions all three.

I was not aware that Weinberg wrote a Violin Concerto, but I will dive into that one. :)

I'll let you know about when I hear it, Harry.

I'm of the camp that is inclined to say that a good choice for the Piano Concerto is not to have it all....my regrets and all, but I found it overlong and overblown.

The Capriccio box does look interesting, but the Hanssler BachAkademie landed today, along with my most recent order from Presto,  which means my listening pile needs some serious attention before I add much of anything more to it.

I only have these - good stuff. The Offenbach are very light, not quite as pithy as the cello works, for example. But I enjoy them. The Weingartner are very good and I have been thinking about getting the rest of them one of these days.
Be kind to your fellow posters!!

The Barbirolli recording is a treasure.  Which Haitink cycle did you get?  I've not heard the recent one, but every so often I hear one of his old records with the RCO and am pleasantly surprised by how he gets almost everything right.
