Excellent, this is good to hear, Daniel. I would like to hear Gardner do some RVW. That would be something. I wish he'd do the whole symphony cycle. Here's to dreaming. ;) As for Stravinsky, Janacek...sure I can see him conducting these composers, but I can also see him conducting more Contemporary composers too like Lindberg, Salonen, Adams, MacMillan, Vine, Reich, more of Part's music, among others.

A full symphony cycle from him certainly would be something to dream for! Perhaps he will do one in the future, he definitely seems to love British music of that time. As you can imagine, I'd also be very interested about what he'd be like in Mahler. :) Oh yes, I can certainly see him conducting those contemporary composers in the future, I'd definitely hope for Salonen, Adams, MacMillan and Part from him! :D

First purchases of 2012! :)

I could not resist myself getting some fresh French harpsichord stock. :D

An oversees purchase, which is rare since Amazon US' international shipping rates went up so much. But for issues on American Plectra Music the price differences are so big that it is worth my while.

Q

I bought these CD's a few months ago.  I think I am pretty close to having every CD released by Plectra Music, a nice little label ...    ;)

Here's to more recordings from Gardner! :D

71 dB

The first purchase of the year 2012:

Johann Adolf Hasse - Requiem in C major / Miserere in E minor - Il Fondamento / Paul Dombrecht - Opus 111

The price was very low so we'll see if the Amazon Marketplace seller can deliver this one. I like Hasse's music a lot. Another overlooked and underrecorded composer.
Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

Yes indeed. I'm not complaining but it would be nice if a tiny bit of Handel flooding is gradually diverted towards Hasse. I think I have this disc BTW.

There's a couple of Hasse projects on the way BTW:

Hasse. Didone Abbandonata. Naxos (forthcoming 2012). Live recording of the March 2011 production in Munich. Michael Hofstetter, Hofkapelle München. Didone: Theresa Holzhauser, mezzo-soprano; Selene: Magdalena Hinterdobler, soprano; Araspe: Maria Celeng, soprano; Iarba: Valer Barna-Sabadus, countertenor; Enea: Flavio Ferri-Benedetti, countertenor; Osmida: Andreas Burkhart, baritone.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hasse. Romolo ed Ersilia. Alpha (forthcoming 2012). Attilio Cremonesi, Café Zimmermann, ChorWerk Ruhr. Romolo: Marina de Liso, mezzo-soprano; Ersilia: Rosanna Savoia, soprano; Valeria: Robin Johannsen, soprano; Ostilio: Netta Or, soprano; Acronte: Paola Gardina, mezzo-soprano; Curzio: Johannes Chum, tenor.

I would also like to se more Telemann operas forthcoming.

Towards Hasse and many other composers.  ;)

However, there are "tons" of Hasse discs I don't have (I bought my fourth now).

Nice to see Naxos releasing Hasse. Since this is very recent recording, it is pretty optimistic to say it will be out this year. Surely before 2020!  :D

Let us know what you think of this when it comes out.  Based on the samples, it will be great.

Arrived this morning: Strauss, RVW, Mozart and a CD that Lethe pointed out a few days ago, Farewell.

No; I'm one of those inveterate posters of discs ordered. But both amazon.co.uk and amazon.com have reasonably thrusthworthy revies of it (by Scott Morrison among others). It should be up your alley all right, if you're familiar with Ibsens Brand you should know that he scaled the heights like a regular Alpensymfonie wanderer, though he tumbled dramatically....

I've heard it already, and its quite a remarkable journey. Complex music with a message.

I have much respect for the fact that you can stomach Thielemann, for me he is poison in every way. I cannot stand the fellow, and his mannerisms.
The Beethoven cycle is the worst one I ever heard in my life.

Psychological, more than based on the music, I reckon? (Which raises the question: knowing your attitude about CT, why did you ever even bother purchasing (?) / listening to his LvB?)
In any case, if his LvB is (mildly) contentious listening, his Strauss (ditto Wagner) -- in every way -- is (among) the best there is... so Sarge probably doesn't need an extra stomach lining to take it in.

That Alpine Symphony in particular is mighty fine, although I'm still partial toward the latest Haitink (LSO) effort with its extraordinary sonics.

I have heard a few of his performances on television, so psychology has nothing to do with it. And note it is my opinion, werther you like that or not.
And you may think that based on what you do, you are the only one allowed to make insight remarks, but that is a delusion on your side.  No need to be at the beginning of the year caustic towards me, something you apparently cannot do without.
