Quote from: madaboutmahler on July 04, 2012, 01:50:04 PMThank you, John - will do. I've been wanting to buy this recording for quite a long time now, eversince you posted about it on the listening thread for the first time in fact! :)

Will be interested to read your comments once you've heard it, Daniel. You never heard a Largo as intense as this one I assure you. 8)

Mahler may be the headliner for that recording, but the Metamorphosen is one of the best I've heard; the only better one I've heard is the performance which is included in the GROC release of Klemperer's Ninth.

Dvorak finally landed, will never understand why it takes three weeks from US amazon and about 10 days from anyone else in the US. Svetlanov from MDT for 3 euros.

There is a similar timelag on deliveries in the US.  Amazon US packages will take up to a week to reach me (and only after they've waited a couple of days to ship),  but Marketplace vendors usually only three to five days.  And it's only Amazon US.  Amazon UK and Amazon Italy orders reach me at about the same speed as orders from other European vendors.

The Kalkbrenner is good (though I prefer the first disc from Hyperion more). Still, the usual high standard here. Hope you enjoy it and welcome back from your hiatus.

Hi Neal - I also have the other recording, so looking forward to the one ordered - did get a good review and Shelley seems to be just infallible in some of this repertoire!  Dave :)

Here in Australia, Amazon US orders take at least 6 weeks, while Amazon UK orders arrive within two (usually).

I didn't mean to buy anything this week - but then I saw this for £10.08!

This is great stuff. It may or may not become your favorite, but Boult has some great insight into the music.

It's been sitting in my wishlist for ages, but I kept putting it off because I have a number of sets already, and Barbirolli serves my needs very well. But I knew I was duty-bound to listen to this one day....

Re the Dvorak, I was very impressed by the one disc I have of the Naxos series, but kept waiting for them to box it, and they never did :(

With Elgar/Boult and this Dvorak box, soon I will be wallowing in Late Romantic gorgeousness  0:)

Agreed. Boult is among the best conductors of Elgar's music.
Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

Indeed. Boult has to be part of any serious Elgar collection.

Thank you, I will be able to discover the Methamorphosen in the best possible conditions, since I do not know that work yet :)

You can never have enough recordings of Haydn symphonies  ;D

My 3rd volume in the Fey series, and I am beginning to like this conductor more and more.
Now listening to Abbado in symphony n°93 and 101, and these are great versions. The Chamber Orchestra of Europe seems to made to play Haydn :)
