The coupled Sixth is the better performance but I don't think Ormandy's Nielsen a must-have. The First feels rushed, the phrasing insensitive. If you don't have Previn's First (released the same year as Ormandy's First) I urge you to acquire it. And it comes with Martinon's great Fourth:

Thanks. VERY helpful, indeed. Martinon's Fourth of course is a staple... along with Gould's Second.

Holy cow... who would have thought that a whole CD of just flute sonatas could not only be so NOT annoying, but indeed so enjoyable. Got it for the Schulhoff, mostly... but even the Dvorak Sonatina in its transcription works really well!

Saw this mentioned by a few fellow GMGr's, had no idea this existed. I'm a huge fan of this film and Auric's score (and Philip Glass' opera based on the film).

All fantastic choices. You certainly won't be disappointed by any of them. Vanska's Sibelius is still my favorite. Those Berg and Webern boxes are essential listening for the 20th Century fan. The Lutoslawski is good, but I'm not a big fan of his music. Some of it I like, some of it I'll leave for others to enjoy. Anyway, enjoy the music!

I've been wondering the same. House renovations can be intense and a contstant headache, so hope they are going well.
Be kind to your fellow posters!!
