As expected I purchased the new Bernstein/Mahler set :):

Wonderful! You can't get wrong with Bernstein in Mahler's music! :)

I didn't know you were in the market for another Mahler set, Conor. Anyway, good choice there. That particular box contains all the original LP covers, so it's pretty cool to have those. Enjoy the music!

Looking forward to hearing this recording and the rest of the series. Always happy to see another Nielsen symphony cycle emerge.

I GOT A JOB!!! After 364 days of temping at a low hourly wage for corporate slave-drivers, I scored a permanent, salaried job working at a community college in a really great office filled with wonderful people doing terrific work. I'm moving from a cube row to an office suite overlooking a lake, and I'm also moving from my parents' upstairs bedroom to a place of my own in Dallas.

That's outstanding news. Brian. Congratulations!

I lived in Dallas for 7 years. Not bad for a big city. :)

Oh and as part of my job-app process... I promised myself as a motivator that if I got a job before Presto's Harmonia Mundi sale ended, I could buy as many Harmonia Mundi CDs as I wanted, no matter the cost.

$350 later, here's what I just purchased. Definitely, positively my last music purchase of 2012, probably my last until next summer, cuz that's the most money I've ever dropped on a single order. But oh my god does it look good.

The hard to read ones are: Vivaldi double concertos (Akademie fur Alte Musik Berlin), Lorraine Hunt Lieberson and Peter Serkin, Bernarda Fink sings Dvorak, Paul O'Dette plays Kapsberger lute works, Tharaud and Zhu play Schubert piano four-hands.

I was gonna also do Hyperion, but that would have cost waaaay too much money, and also the Martinu cycle came up for US$25, which is half what it goes for on Amazon.

Congratulation on your new job, Brian.  This is an eclectic collection of CD's ...

^^Thanks Ilaria and John - I used to own the 6th, 8th and 9th from the Bernstein set so I am keen to re-visit them and hear the rest of the Cycle too. Yes I like the original covers featured in this set, they are a nice touch and I think they will look good in my digital library  8)
@Steve - I will make sure to let you know what I think of the Cycle when I recieve it - I can tell you already that the 9th impressed me a lot when I first heard it (it was also the first Mahler Symphony I owned) although I prefer more broadly paced readings now (Bernsteins 9th fits on 1 Disc IIRC) :)

Looks as if it's a box I got quite some time ago, but with a different cover.

Arrived this morning: C.P.E. Bach's Prussian Sonatas; a twofer of waltzes and other dance music by Mozart, Joseph Lanner and J. Strauss Sr., Harnoncourt conducting the Concentus Musicus Wien; and the last two discs I needed to complete the Bilson/Gardiner Mozart cycle.

A few crazy people in MI's "So I Like This Woman" thread claimed money can't buy happiness. You've just proven them wrong  ;D

I believe in science.  I would like to put your friend's theory to the test.  If everyone on the forum would please send me $1000, I will report back on my mental state.  We can carry out multiple tests if needed.  We may have to increase the amounts in subsequent rounds to truly test the theory.

Just thinking about sending you a thousand bucks is making me unhappy.
