Hm, a temptation, I do confess it.

The audio samples sounded absolutely wonderful plus I've already heard the first and second Armenian Rhapsodies, so I will be anxious to hear the third. I also haven't heard the Exile Symphony and the other works included on this disc. I went on BMOP's website and you can download the PDF booklets of most of their recordings and the booklet accompanying this Hovhaness looked great.

Not a bad deal Holden.  Too bad that last week it was $66+shipping on a lightning deal.  Still $91 is a good price.

?!?!?!?!?! I could have sworn we've talked about that Randall Thompson piece before.

Speaking of, my Bernstein Symphony Edition, with that disc included, is held at UPS, who won't deliver while I'm at work. Blerg.

Yes, I own the Koch recordings of Thompson's symphonies but not the Bernstein performance of his Symphony No. 2.

My weekly trip to the Arkivmusic well.

The nearly indecipherable one is Ensemble 415 playing Mozart's Concertone and other works.
I almost went for the Zelenka Missa Votiva recording, but decided to let that one wait:  the Anima Eterna CDs have piqued my interest, and for all their status as orchestral warhorses, I don't have many recordings of Symphonie Fantastique or La Mer.

Do you like to support Arkiv? I ask because at least three of these can be found more cheaply elsewhere (the first two Ensemble 415 and Berlioz discs) at Amazon MP. Nonetheless, an interesting haul. Let us know what you think of Immerseel's La Mer.
Be kind to your fellow posters!!

I've come to really enjoy Anima Eterna, and I like their sound with Berlioz. My initial impression of this disc was fairly poor. But I found much more from this performance the more time I spent with it.  Good choice.

I listened to it on NML earlier this week. I remember a slightly slow but gorgeously detailed account, every line and part and nuance audible, ultimately very enjoyable. Unlike some other slow or non-big-name accounts (Krivine, say), the finale's big payoff does come across fairly successfully. Since my favorites from the blind listening game* aren't on NML, and I can only stream music at work, Immerseel might be my new go-to La Mer when I'm listening to Debussy online. There's also Yan-Pascal Tortelier on Chandos, who's about three minutes faster and more exciting, but not so detailed or well-recorded.

If you don;t mind the Bernstein Royal Edition (no idea if sound differs), can be had for 1.99 used (so ~5 with shipping).

Oh I own it, I just don't want to bring an iPod or a CD to work, so at work I use NML. Guess I actually could listen to the Bernstein since I downloaded the MP3s from 'Amazon Cloud'...
