How do we square the supposedly "Christian" doctrine of "original sin" with Jesus's teaching that, "Unless you change and become like little children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven."

And how do you square that teaching with the following:  "unless a man be born again by water and the Holy Ghost, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God"? Just saying.

As for Rousseau, had he actually lived among the "noble savages" he so lavishly praised, he would perhaps have been less enthusiastic about them...  ;D

But some of us already indiciated that it would happen, weeks ago. :P

A huge thumbs up for all three of these, Conor. 8) Hope you enjoy the Delius. Have you had much exposure to his music prior to these purchases?

The only criticism I have of that Berglund set so far is that it seems a bit bass shy.

eClassical is having a sale on Martin Fröst recordings, so I got the following 24-bit downloads.  The Mozart is full 24/96 and sounds absolutely gorgeous, particularly the quintet.

Hi Dave - own the Brahms & Mozart - probably my favorite performances, i.e. on a modern instrument -  :)  Dave

Thanks MI - I have a little Delius in my collection already (3 Discs) and like his music so looking forward to hearing my new purchases. I really liked the samples I heard from the big Delius box :)

Drawing another few buckets from the Arkivmusic well.

the London Symphony was almost an afterthought:  having ordered something by Edward and Charles, it seemed positively impolite not to include Ralph in the party.
(BTW, the image on the Parry cover is directly relevant to the musical content: the Te Deum was written for the Coronation of George V, one piece of pomp being the moment shown on the cover.  That's George looking very serious in the middle, with the Kaiser on his right (our left).  I'm not sure who the older guy on his other side was.)

I am totally aiming for this one as well, though FYI for those also interested, it can be found in a recent Vivarte box, in case there are other items therein that you need:

CENTENARY COLLECTION VOL. 2 - GREAT VOICES (DG, 5cd, 1997)
Mainly because it seemed to rapidly be slipping out of availability, and because I'd tried out the famous Peter Anders WINTERREISE (1945) and it had totally floored me.  I am also becoming generally excited by a lot of ~pre-WW2 singing, and this collection is full of names I've not heard before or much.

[asin]B000024OLZ[/asin]
Villa-Lobos: GENESIS etc (Roberto Duarte - released by Marco Polo)
An alternative product page: B0000045WS, except this second product page offers (for the moment) generally more-expensive used copies and a 'new' burn-to-order CDR edition, FYI.

[asin]B000068VDW[/asin]
Janacek: GLAGOLITIC MASS etc (Tilson-Thomas/LSO)
I keep running into recommendations of this one, recently at GMG more than once.  The ASIN is for the bargain edition from Sony released ~2002 and also OOP, IIRC; I got mine cheaper from Amazon UK, ~U$10 new including shipping.  My previous references have mainly been Ancerl and Wit (that Blu-Ray-Audio from Naxos, which sounded fantastic as audio but was rather less to my liking as music).

Fafner

I just could not resist any longer and I bought the large Wagner - Solti box from Presto Classical:

Thanks!  I had the single disc on my wish list and it just happened to be at the used shop last night, so I snagged it.  That set looks tempting, but too many other LvB chamber cds I want outside of those performances right now, so will have to pass.

Three more bought today in my favorite brick-and-mortar book-and-CDs-store. (is this a word?)

MI approved purchases for sure. 8) I actually wrote a review on Amazon for that Villa-Lobos recording.

Hi Andrei - I own the Mancini - you should enjoy!  I was surprised to find that I had NO Cimarosa in my collection - so decided to order the 2 Naxos offerings substituted above - excellent reviews from Scott Morrison on Amazon and also on the Naxos website.  I'll be interested to hear your comments on the guitar transcriptions of this composer.  Dave :)

A good choice, Dave, since I got much pleasure from those discs and much travel envy from the cover photos!
