In this episode of The Lord of the Symphonies, we witness  Frodo as he contemplates the hazards brought on by invading England.

I've put the Hardest Working Woman in the Bundespost back to work. Arrived this morning: the Hobbit's Mendelssohn (Symphonies 1, 3 and 5 coupled with String Symphonies); Penderecki's Horn Concerto "Winterreise" coupled with a great deal of noise (according to the Hurwitzer's very funny 10/10 review); Bruckner motets inspired by a Monkey Greg post; and Lisa Batiashvili's Shostakovich A minor, a CD I was sure I'd bought shortly after its release but which subsequently disappeared (or maybe I didn't buy it at all but merely imagined it during a senior moment  :D )

I have that one scheduled for March.  :D

Sarge

Oh no. I never say ever.

I just need to focus on the new ones I recently purchased until I get more.

Sarge, I never got around to listening to the "noise," but I LOVED the Horn Concerto. If I had time to search GMG, I think there's a post somewhere where I rank it alongside the Sextet as my favorite Penderecki. Not that I'm an expert; have heard maybe 12-15 of his works.

Thinking I would be able to curb my Bruckner purchases is laughable. Which is why I've never been one to claim I'm quitting from buying,

Things have been quiet on the ordering front while I stack away fresh deliveries from previous orders. Not much time for listening either (though I had a concert experience last night with a superb Gerontius from the Bergen Philharmonic under their new conductor Edward Gardner). This  recent order shipped from presto a couple of days ago though, and will soon be in my mailbox:

I am breaking my promises in order to make Greg feel better!

Sweelinck: COMPLETE KEYBOARD WORKS (NM Records, 9cd, ~2007)
Leo van Doeselaar, Bob van Asperen, Freddy Eichelberger, Glen Wilson, Menno Van Delft

I got mine through an Amazon France MP seller called Azur Classic for ~US$60 including shipping; their store/dealer at Amazon UK is even a bit cheaper but won't ship to the USA.  Kind of an investment, but I was wowed enough by the Sweelinck Psalms box on Glossa to pursue this.  Big hat-tip to Que!
