Ordered today :

;)

You chose wisely. Very wisely. Or at least, more wisely than if you'd gone for the Zinman/Upshaw recording ...

The box with the chamberworks by Dvorak is a very good buy Tasos, I enjoyed it immensely!

Harry, I'm also considering the string quartets boxset (Stamitz Quartet), how do you like that one?

Hear it, then tell me I'm wrong. ;)

I own the Zinman and I am very happy with it. As for buying others, I thought 'tis the season to buy less?  ;D

The cover is gorgeous, naturally, but the music from Bantock is not far behind......

The Stamitz is a very good performance. They take their time, phrasing is gorgeous, their legato is absolute bliss, and the unity between these players is most excellent. Add to that the fine recording, and a no brainer price... So I would say, you cannot go wrong with the Stamitz set. I had already three complete boxes, but I added this one for its pure quality...

Thanks, Harry! And the chamber music box set is indeed wonderful.  :)

It's Ravel...it's Dutoit...and it's Montréal...a perfect trifecta Danny.

Oh absolutely!  Just a few weeks ago I was introduced to the very, very fine Celtic Symphony disc...

Hello Don,
How'd you like this one?

Mark

From a charity shop today (remember, I've still got a month of shopping to do yet ... anything might happen ;D):

The Jansons disc was a particularly good scoop, as it's hybrid SACD. ;)

Thought it was about time I heard Karajan's classic 1963 Beethoven symphonies cycle, so imagine my delight at finding this on Amazon for £10:

There's another set on offer, if anyone's interested. ;)

I's an excellent set, Mark! Probably the best all-round recommendation, save maybe for his later 1977 cycle (but that's much more expensive). It should be supplemented by a better Pastorale (the cycle's weak point) and another 3, 5 and 8 for alternative viewpoints.
