That is by all means, not a bad choice Bill! :)

My second cd from Oxford Camerata/Summmerly Harry and from the looks of it, there seems to a nice handful of recordings left to purchase from this tandem.  The bonus here is that they record on the Naxos label which all run at $8 new.

After only one listen, this, to me, is one of the more powerful performances I have on the shelf for this genre.  If I find I enjoy it enough, I may upgrade to the SACD for a few bones more (see discription below from the web).

This recording of Spem in alium was made using 'surround sound'. The forty voices were arranged to form four sides of a huge St-Chad cross: Choirs 1 & 2 to the West, 3 & 4 to the North, 5 & 6 to the East, and 7 & 8 to the South. The recording was made to celebrate the 500th anniversary of Tallis's birth and the 21st birthday of Oxford Camerata — old members of Oxford Camerata met with their new counterparts for this performance of Tallis's masterpiece.

What's in it, Howard?

All original performances by Piazolla the man. Mostly studio recordings from the original albums.

Never heard anything by Weill. I took the plunge when i saw that the whole programme on the cd was written with big parts for wind ensemble - i am a hardcore classical wind music fella, also, i had been trying to find composers that were not listed as the "bigs" to listen to, as i am now currently "tiring" out the "standard" orchestral and chamber repertoire.

Found myself in Princeton, NJ yesterday.  Here's the highlights of what I got at the PREX:

The man that hath no music in himself,
Nor is not moved with concord of sweet sounds,
Is fit for treasons, stratagems, and spoils.
The motions of his spirit are dull as night,
And his affections dark as Erebus.
Let no such man be trusted.

Is the Violinkonzert his Op. 12? That is a great piece.

I like that piece, too.  First heard it just a few years ago by the Ebony Band, a group of Concertgebouw Orchestra musicians who play more jazz-oriented works, with Alexander Kerr, the group's former concertmaster.

A friend who lives in UK visited me today and brought some CD's that I ordered to his address (due to custom prices or seller only shipping to UK). A belated Christmas present :).

Interesting that you mention the Ebony Band, because their current leader is the prominent oboist Werners Herbers whom used to play principal oboe with the Concertgebouw, whoms student is one of my previous teachers, and a very good one, much in the line of the Dutch school of playing. I listened to the violin concerto, and find it very skillfully written, though lacking somewhat in individuality. I think i will give another spin tomorrow if time permits!

This one I find to be top notch, heard it a few weeks ago, and was flabbergasted by its sheer quality.
