Just landed:

The Previn recording of the Fourth and Fifth demonstrated how good the CSO could sound in Shostakovich, so I got curious about this 'un, too.
This has been one of my favorite disc.  I have constantly played it for many years..........

Didn't even know of its existence!

What survey?  For purely financial reasons, I've dumped the survey idea.  I'll just get the Claves set and use a few other sets for comparison.

My wife and I are vacationing in Europe next month.  To say it's an expensive trip is putting it mildly.  We'll be going to Poland, Budapest, Prague and Italy.

Terrific, Don! For how long?

But such a trip to Europe seems a very attrictive idea too! ;D

Hope you have a very good time Don!

Terrific, Don! For how long?

The entire month of June.  My son is getting married north of Warsaw near the Baltic Sea.  Since we haven't ever been to Europe, it seemed foolish to go to Poland but nowhere else.  So we expanded the trip.

My main problem is what to do about smoking, since the air travel takes forever.  Maybe I'll just sit on the wing and puff away.

Indeed, I remember that song from the eighties... ;)

just ordered these two:

Ahem.

Don, if I may:

In Europe we think about distances in a slightly different scale. The distance between Warsaw and the Baltic sea is roughly 250-300 km. The entire Baltic sea is of course north of Warsaw but if your son is getting married near the Baltic sea then... well, you get my general meaning. It sounds a bit strange to say "north of Warsaw, near the Baltic". My wife comes from a little town that's about 60-80 (depending on the route) km south of Warsaw and we wouldn't say she lived south of Warsaw. It's a small country, we are simple folk and we think really small-scale. ;)

Anyway, congrats to your son! I got married in Poland too ( ;D) - it's a wonderful experience. All the best to him and his bride! 8)

So, where exactly is he getting married? And why near the Baltic? ;D (Incidentally, I've seen quite a few beaches in my life and nowhere are they as beautiful as the Baltic ones - though of course there's this little problem with water temperature... :-\).

I wrote "north of Warsaw" because I didn't recall the name of the town.  It is Bydgoszcz, and the marriage takes place at the Hotel Palac-Myslecinek.
