That's the one I have with this cellist!
The first, and good it is.

Hello all, friends!

Harry, if you trust my taste, then please, expand your Rostropovitch side of collection! And if you won't like it, I'd be more than happy to be the trashcan! :)

Yes, I knew you would say that! :)
Goodmorning Andrei & George.

Sorry can't get the image thing to work. Newbs ::)! Anyway, its Celibidache Bruckner 4 on EMI.

This CD is exactly why I think someone should write a little Java random word generator for Brucknerite adjectives, just to help out with mini-reviews like this. Off the top of my head; mountaineous, granitine (I invented that word), and cathedralotic (and that one). 2nd and 3rd mvts are paced quite conventionally but the real revelations come in the 1st and finale where the slowed, but not turgid pace, reveals exquisite detail. The coda, did I mention the coda? Now I like a good Bruckner coda and this beats out my previous favorite (Boulez's 8th) by a long way. Not just for the Bruckner fans, it's premium priced, but worth every penny.

Have a nice weekend everyone, I'm off to the in-laws.

Well Bill is Harnoncourt growing on you?

He is starting to become somewhat of a default at this end Harry.

Good morning folks.
There will never be another era like the Golden Age of Hollywood.  We didn't know how to blow up buildings then so we had no choice but to tell great stories with great characters.-Ben Mankiewicz

I have to calm down my purchases as of late. But can i just crow now about how I just purchased my dream amplifier-the one I wanted since I was about 12 years old??

I got this puppy:

It is a Vox AC30, a bad-ass amp. It was the one that Pete Townsend  kicked in during one of his infamous instrument-wrecking sessions on stage. The Beatles used these, as did the Stones, and many other great rock bands of the 60s.

Yes, this is a far-cry from my saxophone. But lately Rock-N-Roll seems to be the healer for me.

I have purchased a TON of music too, too lengthy a list to post here (just sold a house). But suffice it to say all genres of music are represented.

I got a lot of Bernstein conducted stuff. He remains my favorite conductor (if I have one), whom I still lack a good enough catalog.

First disc from this composer.
Fascinating stuff.

Steve

Harry, I'm entirely ignorant to this composer. What do think of that set?

I heard some sound samples on JPC, and a small portion of the first Symphony.
What I can tell you is, that its tonal, very melodious, at times dreamlike, but.........give me a moment! :)
I will listen to it shortly.
I was also ignorant my friend until I found this one.

It seems that every time I'm short of cash and should really be holding back I have to come across something as enticing as this: Taneyev's works for piano, 168 pages, including a reduction of the PC (!), for 8,90 PLN (that's 2,37 EUR, 3,22 USD!). How could I pass it up? 0:)
