Well Lohengrin was never my favorite Wagner opera. For many years the only one I have is Kempe/EMI. Then I got the Domingo but didn't think it was really that great a recording which is strange since I really love Domingo. This one was cheap so I gave it a shot.

Kullervo

There are probably more well-known things I should be buying, but the samples were too ravishing to put this one off for later.

Well, what with ArkivMusic's sales on the Supraphon label and so-called "Summer Classics" about to end, I put in an order which eats up all of my spending money for the next two months.  ;D

Here it is!

I've never heard either of these symphonies.

hornteacher's favorite recording of these works.

A little bit of light music:

(Vaclav Neumann conducting)

And things that are not from Supraphon:

M forever

Got this from Japan. Karajan and the Berliner Philharmoniker live in Tokyo 1988 (the last time he appeared in Japan):

Mozart 29 - Tchaikovsky 6

Beethoven 4 - Mussorgsky: Pictures at an Exhibition

Apparently, they only had one picture of him on file...

Thanks for reminding me of this. How do you like it?

Looks like a wonderful set, but why did they have to split the Brahms???  >:( It's really silly of record companies to break the continuity of great works. I can understand if it's a large work, like a Mahler symphony, but doing it to Mozart concerti and Brahms and Dvorak (Kertesz) symphonies is stupid.

The opus 5 from Corelli is indeed a fine recording, I sampled through it, and it makes me extremely happy.

Unable to resist the pressure from our Dutch/Scottish Mafia (an unholy alliance of male skirt and clog wearers), I bought all the JBS symphonies in one go:

When I read that Welser-Möst extends (distends?) the third movement to almost 25 minutes, I just had to hear it:

I heard some of these performances live in Stuttgart; decided to get the box, partly nostalgia, partly to compare with his later Munich Bruckner. The box also includes the Mozart Haffner and my favorite Schubert symphony, the Fifth:

I ordered the Bragos as well with JPC but they are still on hold somehow! :P

Harry, when I saw that JPC didn't have them in stock, I checked amazon.de and found them, same price as JPC. I got the last Symphony 2 but I think the rest are still in stock.

That picture is really confusing me. How many fingers does he have?

Oh, and my experience with the CD of Braga Santos' Fourth Symphony + Symphonic Variations was absolutely wonderful. :)

Just finished the Second...absolutely wonderful (Jezetha was right: tremendous Allegretto after that heart-rending Adagio). Really looking forward to hearing the rest.

Let us know of your findings! I'm also considering this box.
