Very, very interesting!  :)
Thanks for pointing that one out. Dantone has been absolutely great in Bach sofar IMO.
Will be most interested in your findings.
BTW: is this a new L'Oiseau Lyre release? Or a reissue of a recording I did not know it had ever existed? :o

Que, it's a new recording. And I should hope it will be followed by a second volume.
Will report back upon delivery!

That's a barn-burning Chopin PC. Probably my favorite Pogorelich disc.

My anticipation heightens.  8)

Even more Rachmaninoff for M arrived today! And there are some more orders still pending. Will this madness never end?

I love music. Sadly, I'm an audiophile too.

I bought my first archiv cds today:

from the used cd store. I must say I am impressed. Other than the little logo that says Archiv cd the cd artwork, and booklet looks just like the EMI issues. Archiv music has come a long way to making these products more professional looking.

Archiv or Arkiv? (Archiv ~ DG, isn't it?)

For you? No.

Really looks like that. This came in today:

I finally did it!  I pulled the trigger on this set.  £30 for 50 CDs was far too inticing to pass up:

Yes i am aware of the less than stellar quality of the symphony cycle but I already have the Wand cycle.  I am missing the songs, many piano compositions etc.  This set should do the trick! ......I hope  :-\!!

Let's hope no innocent musicians were harmed in the process! $:)

(I'll also be going downtown tomorrow to have a look around for some of Cortot's Chopin. This could count as a "[likely] purchase tomorrow". ;))

EMI is reissuing this box next month, at least in Europe:

the phone rings and somebody says,
"hey, they made a movie about
Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."

Interesting, Sarge. Is his Haydn comparable to his Mozart in calibre?

It is, and has all the Klemperer touches: incisive rhythm, divided violins, prominent woodwinds. Who needs HIP?  ;)

Renfield HMV has massive sales these days.  They are beating amazon.co.uk marketplace prices on quite a few recordings....its a wonderful time to shop for cds and bargains!

So it seemed to me when I visited one again, last month!

And I assure you, they'll get rather more frequent visits from me following my upcoming move. ;)

They are not beating them on regular full-price CDs however. BBC Legends, £13 today, I can get it from the Amazon marketplace for a little more than half that. Maybe it's because I'm jaded but I think sales were actuallly better 2-4 years ago. Now I often see just the same dross over and over again (and I mean Brilliant boxes and some other surplus stuff, whereas before it seemed every label came up for sale).

Actually I think you will find some GREAT deals on a lot of EMI Great Recordings of the Century recordings especially operas and symphonies, some DG recordings like Schubert's songs.  Most surprising was the Harnoncourt Complete sacred cantatas (60 CDs) for £100  :o.  I did a quick check on amazon.co.uk marketplace and found the same set retailed for 1.5 times that amount.  Check it out you might find something you like!!

OK....I so wanted my first Ring Cycle purchase to be the magnificent Solti/WP set....but.....I couldn't pass this one up.  Only $40 at McNally Robertson.  Not only the price being great, from alot of the comments on GMG, this seems to be another highly tauted set.

I'm super excited for having a full Ring Cycle, forever, in my home!  :)
