Turns out there are two Mahler IV with Walter and Seefried: NYPO '53 and Wiener '50.
Decided to take both - with the latter comes a Bruckner IX - which seems an excellent idea, and it got a Diapason d'Or.  ;D

Q

Interesting, didn't know that VPO '50 was released on Tahra. Previously it was only available on Urania and I don't go that way unless I don't have to (looks like I'll have to buy a Michelangeli disc as it seems to be the only offer for his Valses Nobles :P).
But this is nice development, now you can tell me if it is worth checking out ;D, especially since I'm pefrectly happy with that other one.

The '62 version of the Requiem by Von Karajan with the BPO:

Dancing Divertimentian

Veit Bach-a baker who found his greatest pleasure in a little cittern which he took with him even into the mill and played while the grinding was going on. In this way he had a chance to have the rhythm drilled into him. And this was the beginning of a musical inclination in his descendants. JS Bach

Yes, I avoid the likes of Urania too.

I will! ;D  I normally don't double performances but the irresistible attraction of an early recording by Walter of a Bruckner 9th did me in for .... :-\

Q

Less irresistible if one currently has 7 Bruckner 9ths in yet-unlistened-CDs pile :o

Not all by Bruno Walter, I hope.. ;D ;)
So, your primary interest would be the Mahler - I'll keep that in mind.

Well, part of the Carter CD could be considered easy listening ;) as the symphony is both tonal and almost conservative in style...

Forgive me my ignorance, concerning Carter. I did not know, thinking all works of him atonal.

Why is this thread designated as being sticky?  ???

It wasn't designated as such on the old forum.

Also: how does a thread become sticky? What is the criteria?

Perhaps because we're always 'purchasing today'? :)
