Yes - they have a sale on at the moment. That's why the price of the Vivaldi box is so low. Whether the free postage extends outside the UK I don't know, but 'twould be worth an email to find out.

Elgarian,  Thanks for the links.  While the Vivaldi set certainly sounds interesting as most of my Vivaldi's sacred works are over 20 years old, there are a few recordings by Angela Hewitt I would like to have: her latest WTC and her Chopin's Nocturnes, both have garnered excellent reviews.  I do not see anything at the Hyperion website that suggests the sale excludes certain CD's.  I have really come to love Hyperion for doing where the major labels have refused to do for years - to bring the listening public the lesser known Handel's oratorios.  I loaded up on them 2 months ago with my orders at MDT when the latter ran some terrific sales ...

That's right. I think everything is reduced - and then there's a discount on top of that according to the size of the order. The only uncertainty is whether orders outside the UK are post-free.

I just emailed Hyperion at the email address you had posted to inquire about this.  Those Hyperion sales I got at MDT back in April were as good as what Hyperion was offering on its own.  At 25% off for an order over 60 Pounds, it is an excellent deal if the order can be shipped post-free even after having factored in the recent run-up of the Pound against the Dollar.  The first few months of this year were great for buying from MDT when the Pound was relatively weak ...

Wanderer's reply in the affirmative notwithstanding, all one has to do is add some CD or other to one's basket and check if they charge you anything for S&H/P&P.

It does.

I'm sorry - in my haste I scooted past your post somehow, and so missed this very useful information. My apologies.

Beethoven,
Symphonies
Blomstedt, Dresden
- Berlin Classics

Beethoven,
Symphonies
Haitink, LSO
- LSO live (SACD)

For what it's worth: Blomstedt is one of the best "standardized" cycles... Wrote about it here... an excerpt:

I never gave Haitink/LSO that many spins, but I wasn't impressed with any of the individual releases and I wasn't terribly impressed with the cycle. Alas, there are people--whose ears I respect--who like this rather more, so I'd probably have to give it a few more spins to really come down on it with a lasting, informed opinion.

I found the Haitink set very good but somewhat uneven.  I remember thinking #8 was a dud, for instance, but #5 and #7 were excellent.  My main motivation for getting the set was to have a Beethoven cycle in Surround sound and I was generally satisfied with the audio engineering.

Here is an older Symphony No. 9 conducted by Haitink with RCO and I have the recording on both CD and LP.  It was a rousing performance ...

Just ordered this CD set at a great price.  This may be the last Mahler set for me for a while.

Also ordered the Wood Technology TO-144-O - Hardwood Oak 20" Spinning Media Storage Tower, which will give me slots for another 150 CD's right at my computer desk ...    ;D

Haydn - Oboe, Trumpet, & Harpsichord Concertos w/ Pinnock (just voted into Fanfare's Hall of Fame).

Herzogenberg - Piano Quartets & String Trios on CPO; 2-CD set at a discount!

Paganini - Caprices w/ Tanja Becker-Bender - excellent review in Fanfare (Jul-Aug '09 issue).

Rode - Violin Concertos - another 'rave review' in the same Fanfare issue, as above - don't know this composer?

Debussy - Solo Piano Works, Vols. 3 & 4 w/ Jean-Efflam Bavouzet - just completes the 4-CD series for me.

Concerto Koln - Collection (6 CDs) - a fav of mine, highly recommended, & a decent Amazon price - pulled the trigger!

Beethoven - Complete Symphonies w/ Bloomstedt - surprise addition today based on some rave forum reviews -  :D

It happens, don't mention it. Regarding the Hyperion website, they only charge postage when you order something that costs under 6 pounds in order to reach that amount (apparently, that's the minimum they charge).

Ordered today:

Ensemble Orchestral de Paris/John Nelson's Beethoven cycle. I'm really looking forward to this, as the samples I listened to left a most favourable first impression. I sampled both this and Blomstedt on Brilliant and found the latter set (once more) severely not to my taste.

So there is some fine print there.  That was a shrewd decision.  It takes only 5 CD's at £12 to reach £60 while it will take 10 CD's at £6 to reach the same total but the free P&P would have cost Hyperion a bit more.

A 60 pound order is p&p free one way or the other. Postage is charged only if the whole order is under 6 pounds. As already mentioned above, you may experiment in their webpage with all possible item combinations and see for yourself. Their system is quite straightforward and cudos to them for maintaining the same pricing (and discount) policy worldwide.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, as I really did not take a close look at the Hyperion website.  I wonder how Hyperion UK retailers feel about having to compete with Hyperion directly?

As mdt is usually cheaper than Hyperions own website, they shouldn't worry too much.

Not much competition that I see.  hyperion's sale pricing makes me appreciate other UK vendors all the more--even after considering postage costs.

Just wait till that Pound/Dollar exchange rate gets to $1.80 ...    >:D

I have noticed that in Dollar terms, prices on many titles have gone up close to 20%.  I am glad that I bought hundreds of CD's from MDT when exchange rate was between 1.40 to 1.55.
